  1. Thanks Finn!

Wish ya'll were here with us. It's really great to meet so many forum friends & for us to all be together in the same place, at the same time!

    Updates:

    - The house & location are very nice.

    - Liz & Potter got stick & poke tattoo's from Lotus. More folks will likely do the same.

    - Robert is sleeping on his massage table in the laundry room.

  2. kalozojo,

I appreciate you bringing up issues & concerns about racism for folks to consider. That said, a lot of what you've written really doesnt come across well & starts feeling like personal attacks on Potter. Please keep sharing your thoughts but please dont be rude about it.

  3. Thanks for starting this discussion SiNa94!

I do not at all think we should start supporting hunting or that hunting is a reasonable alternative to factory farming.

That said, I fully agree that hunters & animal rights supporters have some very important area's of shared interest. Opposing factory farms or protecting wild lands / wildlife habitat are obvious examples - opposing government attacks on privacy / personal freedom is anouther & both gun-owners & animal rights supporters are commonly targeted. It would be awesome if groups like the NRA & PETA worked together on these issues!

It is important to always remember that hunters are just human beings like us, to recognize our own inconsistencies & to treat people with respect regardless of how they treat us or how much we may dislike their actions/beliefs.

Beyond this, it is critical to move beyond easy assumptions, stereotypes & generalizations. For example, people should definitely not immediately & universally link gun-ownership with hunting or "right-wing" politics!

  4. Just a note: This is actually a few miles north of downtown/central Lincoln City - which is probably a good thing as LC is a very popular summer destination & can get crowded. But since all of Oregon's coastline is public property, there is always more beach somewhere!

  5. Ok folks, Robert is very busy so I'll start filling this in. Please feel free to add your own suggestions, ask questions, etc. I apologize for us not getting the list together before folks started traveling here.

Anyway, I'll break down my suggestions by event. Here goes:

    * Beach-house:

First off, most basic household supplies will be provided so ya wont need to bring dishes, towels, sleeping gear, etc - unless ya really want to.

You probably DO want to bring:

    - Food to share &/or money to contribute for buying food. We'll provide as much as we can but this is a collective effort & your help is needed.

    - Clothing for the beach & varied weather conditions. Right now it looks like we'll have high temp's in the mid-60's to lower 70's & lows in the 50's (Highs:18-20C, Lows:12-14C) with mostly sunnny skies - but the weather can change quickly.

    - Good walking shoes: there are lots of hiking options nearby.

    - Personal hygiene items like soap, shampoo, tooth-brush, etc

    - Daypack for hikes & maybe for keeping yr stuff organized at the house

    - Neat stuff to show your housemates: movies, games, old photo's, etc.

    - Coupons to swap with me! I'll have tons of coupons available for free.

    *Work In Progress*

  6. Monk!

Awesome to see ya posting here again - I'm extremely excited to see ya'll at VV'07!!!

Sorry for not getting back to ya sooner about a place to stay. That place looks like it's in ok area. I'd suggest trying to stay in inner south-east Portland as we have the highest density of vegan stuff.

I'll keep looking for options but here's a couple to get ya started:

    - http://www.portlandhostel.org (this place is in a great location, has an international crowd & seems like an all-around great place)
