  1. There are a lot of protein sources that nutritionally speaking are on par with the standard "meat, brown rice and broc" diet and very tasty too. seitan, tempeh, tofu (if prepared correctly is quite delicious) and of course (if you've got the cash) fake meats.

Also my boyfriend and I run a website store called www.veganproteins.com that sell vegan protein supplements for bodybuilders and such.

PM me if you have and questions or want any additional help.

  2. yeah you're reading it right. haha. i try to eat something in between then but sometimes it doesnt happen. as for efa's, i can work on that. I instituted about 6 different things yesterday from a b vitamin complex, vitamin D pills, chewing on Kelp, vega sport, so why not efa's? Can't hurt right?

And I have to agree that Portland is just as you describe. But I was prepared for it this year!!!! Dammit! Last year, i hybernated until the sun came back out and that just kinda screwed me over mentally. So this year I am going out and exercising just as much as I did in the summer and it is definately helping. But take today for example--it's beautiful and sunny out and i can barely bring myself to walk the dogs-agter getting 9 hours of sleep. It just ain't right.

Well I believe I have a dr's appt next week, so we shall see.

  3. Joe I think you might be right.

Molly, I suppose it's possible although extremely unlikey.

bw, I suppose based on rereading what i wrote it kind of looks like that, but i assure you-i eat plenty of carbs. these bowls of brown rice are big! and often i substitute that for the beans at dinner, I just dont like to because it makes me uncomfortable when i sleep.

I also forgot to mention that as the days go by and i get more tired, I am also getting increasingly cold, even though it is actually getting warmer outside. Those two symptoms (based on all of my scienctific googling ) point to hypothyroidism. Not sure how one's thyroid becomes underactive as a healthy 24 year old.

I also just picked up a b-complex and will try to take vitamin D everyday too and see if that helps. Giacomo is starting to get worried about me, and I suppose I will be seeing a doctor soon :-/ this blows.

  4. I cannot for the life of me figure out why I am so tired all of the time! I used to drink coffee regularly, and realized that it was hurting, not helping me to be more energized. So I stopped drinking it at the end of the summer, roughly 5 months ago. That helped a bit.

I eat what I think is a healthy diet. Anyone wanna take a gander?

    Typical day is

8:30 black tea, green smoothie (almond milk, spinach, spirulina, banana, protein powder, frozen strawberries)

10:30-11am maybe a piece of sprouted grain bread with nat. pb

1pm-brown rice, beans, handful of spinach

7pm- this is where it is inconsistent. just some snack to hold me until giacomo gets home for dinner. almonds and fruit maybe? a fruition bar?

9:45 pm dinner is usually, tempeh, beans and a TON of greens.

The ONLY thing I can think of is that I lost my job right before Christmas and no longer have a "set schedule" and that may be throwing me off? I work a lot from home on the computer but its not the same. I hit the gym about 4 days a week. Take my dogs constantly and get plenty of fresh air, although not much sunshine since i live in portland oregon and its february....

I have no clue. but i know by 4 everyday, i want a nap. and even if i do take one, i am still in bed at midnight and sleeping til 8:30ish or later. WHAT GIVES

  5. Actually i'm 1/2 Wampanoag which the is the tribe of Native Americans that the Pilgrims met when they came over...so i suppose i COULD be awfully resentful about a lot of things. But i'm not. And i don't understand if you thought i was asking for a one-sided debate? but if thats the message i put out thats not what i meant. What i meant was that for 15 years of school, every history book that i learned from WAS a one-sided story. And i think that's kind of a shame. Because, like everything else, there is always another side and i think that is just as important to teach so that people can make their own decisisions as to what to believe with as many facts to draw from as possible.

I don't think Zinn's word is gospel, or that textbooks are nearly as accurate as they are given credit for. But I certainly dont think his legacy should die! Just as I think it wold be a very skewed world if all history books were like "A people's history" and there were no textbooks! Both are of equal importance.

  6. "A People's History of the United States" changed my life (and several other similar things that i read around the same time) It was a requirement for me to read this book my junior year of high school (in a regular ole public high school) and it really opened my eyes to a lot of other things i would not have realized otherwise at that point in my life. BECAUSE up until that point, all I had been shown was mainstream textbooks.

Both are biased. That is for certain. And i think it is very important to educate from as many angles as possible so that people can form their own opinions. And to do that with a grain of salt! I hope his legacy lives on.

“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people,

    can transform the world.”~Zinn <3

That exactly the point being made about transformation. Resentment, vengeance, and reverse discrimination, being three examples of transformation. But I know nobody knows, or wants to admit, to what is being said here. Cause after all, we all need someone to blame.

Im gonna disagree with you here Joe. I suppose that is one way to look at it, but it's a pretty negative one. I don't think anyone is to blame here. I agree that "A People's History" is biased. But so are classic textbooks. One can form their own opinion (any opinion) without necessarily blaming any specific group of people. There is resentment, vengeance and discrimination everywhere-not just in some liberal's book. i think it is good to have many different view-points floating around a school's curriculum so that formative minds get to make their own opinions from the get go.

I'll tell you what creates resentment (im my experience at least) is being taught something as undeniable, indisputable fact-only to later find out that there were other factors at play that made this "fact" more of an opinion than anything else. Maybe the opinion was one i agreed with, maybe not. but give it all to me! I can take it! and make my own call.

    no blame.

  8. i second what Joe said. Research what you plan to sprout before you eat them.

Also, Lean and Green and i have been making our own sprouts since we met. Most of the time there are no issues. But onnce in a while, if left in the sprouter for too long (we have a giant 3-teir sprouter) they doo get a little moldy and then they are no good.

Some of my favorite things to sprout are:

    lentil

quinoa (tastes a lot like cooked quinoa if you eat it when the tails are small)

    chickpea

    mung beans

buckwheat (these seem to take a bit longer)

    enjoy your sprouts!

  9. We're running a 1 day sale on large tubs of Vega for 59.99 at http://www.veganproteins.com Check it out. As always, there will be freebies as well. But orders have to be in by 11 am pacific time (noon mountain, 1 pm central and 2pm eastern) in order to qualify. Then our office will be shut down for 12 days as giacomo and i are visiting our families on the east coast!!!

  10. hey Ryofire.

That is just *my* experience with pot in the fast few years. I do, however, remember a time when it did make me feel very mellow. But at any rate, I dont suggest it as a cure to anxiety, although it may help some.

I, too, suffer from pretty sever anxiety, so i know how you feel. If youre anything like me, you get super anxious and have panic attacks over the stupidest things and then feel like a lunatic becaus eyou know it's something not worth getting upset over. I have been working on this diligently for the past year because thats when i realized just how far gone i was sometimes. So i do have lots of advice on helping/alleviating panic and anxiety if you ever want any support-Im always here for you. shoot me a p.m.! Happy New Year!

  11. this place is a 10 minute drive from my house. i gotta say the "medical" part is joke in portland. I could go get a medical marijuana card saying i get migraines. its really that easy-it's kinda like ....why bother??? nThen once you have this card, you can appoint a grower and/or dealer. So its kinda like a buy 1 get one free thing. sigh.

I have smoked a ton in my life, but quite frankly, i cant stand the stuff now. I think thats just part of growing up, but thats just me. It never helped me with any pain, or to fall asleep. It gives me anxiety attacks and the works. I am not really a fan of this place, and i think it kind of makes a mockery of people who genuinely need marijuana to cope with intense pain.

  12. So far everything looks good to me. Do you do steady state cardio or intervals? If youve been weight training for a while, it might be time to do body part splits instead of just upper/lower. And as always (dont i get tired of hearing this one haha) keep the protein high! Hope that helps! See you around!

  13. Welcome! And fallen horse is correct. You cant bulk up without enough food no matter how much you exercise. If youre raw you can bulk up on sprouted chickpeas, lentils, buckwheat and quinoa pretty cheaply. Raw nuts, nutbutters, seeds and oils are great too, although pricier.
