so I didnt have access to a gym while on the road, so I tried to maintain by doing pullups on tree branches. I must say, its quite harder to do it on bark, then in a gym. great grip exercise.

I know a few people have recently posted about topics of motivation to jump start their new training routines. This is something I wrote over a year ago, but as I read it recently, it sparked me to keep the drive and passion alive. Let me know what you think We are bodybuilders by Robert Cheeke When bodybuilders travel we are often on the receiving end of many odd and strange looks from the public. Not just because we have larger than average physiques, chiseled with rock hard muscle, but because we have behaviors that are foreign to most people. Observers stare and watch as we pull out protein bars from our fanny packs on the airplane and consume not one, but p…

It was actually yesterday....but I had my best set of dumbbell chest press ever! In the past I've used 100's in each hand (I know not that heavy, but heavy for me!) and I've been able to do 4-6 reps. I've also pressed 100's in each hand for incline press. So yesterday I was doing dumbbell chest press and I got 8 solid reps (new personal best). So I bet I could try 105's in the near future and squeeze out 2-5 reps. I was doing incline and just used 80's in each hand and it felt pretty easy, I'm sure I'm cabable of incline pressing 100's again like I did back in 2003. Just wanted to share that, it seems like I'm slowly getting stronger. I always say that I've…

I am having problems with my bench press, namely I get hurt every time I have attempted it. The last few times I have tried doing it with the bar only and having a spotter to watch my form as I assume this is the problem and I am just not "seeing" it. They said my form is dead on, but half way through my first set I pulled my back out again (had to have the spotter take the weight off me). Just below the shoulder, quite sore now. I have lifted my feet up on the bench this time as I have a very distinct curve in my lower back and this helps flatten my back, but it didn't help. Could I be doing something else wrong? My spotters are at a loss, and so am I. I have neve…

Hi Alex, I don't know if you've covered this before, if you have just pass me the link, but you've said a couple of times that you believe that you can cut & build muscle mass at the same time. I'd be really interested in your views about how you'd go about that (& anyone elses of course, but Alex is the only person, so far, to mention it). No worries if it'd take too long or whatever (I know contest is coming closer & how that can drain you), just interested in your take on nutrition.

Ive changed the style of my quats. I used to have a lil bit wider than shoulder stance. and I would squat all the way down til my ass hit my heels. feet facing dead ahead. i also wore the bar really high up on my traps. well now I do this: arch my back significantly and stick my butt out so I maintain that tension. I stand with my legs shoulder width, feet slightly angled out. and i let my knees follow their natural path. I drive from my heels and concentrate on the quads. and the bar is slightly lower on the traps in the natural "pocket".

After a few months without weight training because of a back injury I am looking to start again with light weights. My back isnt really better, but the doctor says theres nothing to do but deal with it. The only program I am familiar with is the body for life one so I am looking for some suggestions of a weight training regimen. I'm not aiming for bulk, just functional strength and calorie burning. Any help would be great! thanks.

I am way over weight for my size and I was just wondering types of shakes, bars and supplements I would need to be taking to help me with my weight loss. I know it's definetly not a fast process but I need something that works. I'm 6'2 280. I want to get down to a good weight of 210 maybe 220 and work with that. Cardio is such a hard thing to get into but I manage a good cardio workout for the week. thanks alot.

First of, a brief intro: My name is Kris and I'm new to this website. I currently live in Michigan and am in med school... I had some questions with regards to starting a new exercise routine. I go the gym about 5 days a week, but only do about 45 min. of cardio during these trips. I occationally will do a few machines mostly assisted dips, leg press, and a couple of others whose names I do not know. I've always been interested in keeping myself fit, but have recently become interested in increasing my muscle mass. I've had some bad experience with trainers graowing-up, most of whom have told me if I want to increase my muscle mass I'd have to start eating meat. I'…

Hello everyone, Check out this feature on our friend Daywalker. It is on the front page of www.veganbodybuilding.com I'm still learning how to do the website work myself so I know there is a small error in the mini photo, but open up the page and see about a dozen photos of this Vegan Bodybuilding Beast! I have more features of Vegan Athletes coming in the near future too. Note...If anyone is interested in being featured in their own section of the MAIN site, please just let me know! Lots of people still only use the main site, and don't come to the forum....others (probably most of you) use the forum and not the main site. So the Main site is a good way to g…

Ok, so I recently lost about 50+ pounds following a weight watchers points style diet. I'd like to lose about 15 more pounds but also begin some serious weight training/body building. What would you recommend in terms of protein intake. By body weight, I'd be at about 160 g/day. I'd find it pretty impossible to continue with my current diet while following that plan. I'd been thinking to drop the diet (I don't like "dieting mentality" anyway), switch to a whole foods plan and up the protein and weight training. How do you think I'd do with dropping the last 15 lbs? What are you following in terms of protein/carb/fat ratio? I noticed that you, Robert, started…

I have a question for all you males. In your opinion, on a woman, which body part do you think is MOST sexy when really defined and cut, and which body part on a woman is least sexy when it is too defined? For example, 6 pack abs sexy on a woman or a turn off for you males? Extremely muscular and cut arms (so we are talking way more than just "shapely and fit") - sexy or turn off? I am curious what all your opinions are on women body parts and how cut they can be without losing sex appeal in your opinions. In short, what for each of the main body parts is too much definition adn muscle in your opinions? Please give your opinions with respect to abs, legs, …

I think there should be a web site to match up workout buddies… you know like how they have roommate finder site. It could take you area, goals, and preexisting gym memberships, then pair you up with someone. Just thinking.

i have been reading a book recently be a guy called brook d kubik called dinosaur training. im curious if anyone has read it or uses the methods it describes. it basically advocates the use of training that was utilised by turn of the century strongmen. strongmen who could perform 729lb one arm deadlifts and who could easily put a 300lb sack of flour over their heads. the exercises described in it predate machines (and steroids!) so involve basic compund movements like bench, squat, deadlift, overhead press, heavy curls, olympic lifting and sandbag and barrel work. also is the use of partial very heavy reps to strengthen tendons and ligaments. prevailent is also the use …

Got some great gains (even for liitle ole me) 3cms on my calves in 6 weeks (also 3cms on my chest!!!!!Put 3cms on my waist too-not usre if thats a good thing though-can't grab any fat so I suppose that may be a plus), but I'm about to change my program, and want some ideas for training calves. My gym is very, very limited we only have a standing calve raise machine. Can't do donkey raises as I don't have a training partner (guys are nuf nufs-and not one girl puts even half as much effort into their training so I'm not even going there-don't socailise when I'm training). At the moment just blasting my calves with some super sets, standing calve raises on the machine (only …

I am currently getting my diet done by an online trainer. She says that it's important for me to get atleast 140g protein daily. My weight is currently 163 lbs and I am trying to lose fat and build muscle. I'll be competing in a figure comp next year. I'm curious though, how do you all get your protein? I've been trying to get most of my protein from tofu and today I'll be adding tempeh. Also, how much protein is appropriate? Does the 140g (minimum) sound accurate? Thanks!

I was wondering if cardio with a rowing machine goes together with bodybuilding. I try to loose fat and instead of running I will try rowing for a while. I have read that with rowing you use 80% of all muscles. So, can I get overtrained with bodybuilding and rowing? And what are your experiences with rowing versus running? I know that running should burn more fat, but what kind of experiences do you have? Nobbi
