  1. Like your mom. Sorry, I couldn't resist making a stupid middle-school joke Yes, this would have to be a very fast, cheap, and easy thing to make for sure. The great thing is that most people don't include meat in their pasta salads (some like to put tuna, but most don't), so it's great to make for buffet-style meals, like if you have a potluck at work. That way, all your omni co-workers are familiar with what the hell it is and they don't need to ask if there's tofu in it (but one always will). You can add a can of olives to make it more fun.
  2. Ugh, that reminds me. I was born on Guam. I am native to Guam. My mother is Guamanian, so I am Guamanian. I don't look it, so people ask if I'm a military brat. I'm not, but that's understandable since my dad is Lebanese and so I don't look Guamanian (Chamorro). But there are questions that just...ugh. "What language do they speak on Guam?" "English." "REALLY?" "So, you can't be president since you're from Guam?" "It's part of the United States. Yes, I can." "Do you have your US citizenship?" "GUAM IS A US TERRITORY." I asked people online if they could recommend non-soy vegan protein powders. My favorite answer was, "Try whey or casein. I am almost certain that they are not animal derived."
  3. Someone on another forum asked how to make an easy, cheap pasta salad, so I threw my recipe in: You'll Need -Dry Pasta -Frozen Mixed Veggies (your choice, I like the pea and carrot one, but something with bell peppers would be great as well) -Italian Dressing of your choice Make It Boil pasta according to the directions. When pasta is 2 minutes shy of being done, add the frozen veggies. Drain in a colander, add dressing to taste, and cool. Add dressing before it cools to make it easier to mix by preventing the pasta from sticking together. Depending on the pasta you get, this will cost very little. You can get 2lbs of pasta for about $2, 1lb of mixed veggies for $1-2, and you can find Italian dressing at a damn dollar store
  4. Even though it's unlocked, BeforeWisdom didn't want it discussed. Here's a link to the thread as requested: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15795 Anyway, I wanted to post this thread because I was looking for help, not to just post a couple I've tried. My friend and I are both vegans into bodybuilding, but she has an issue with taking soy like many people do. She bought a rice protein but ends up having to come home and blend it with fruit to make it drinkable. Does anyone know of any good non-soy protein powders that taste good so she can drink then right after her workout instead of having to come home? I also want to know because I'm interested in snagging a "vegan survival kit" for her sometime and would like to include this. I have heard of this stuff: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bioc/veganprotein.jpg found here http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bioc/veganprotein.html But haven't had any word on taste...though at just under $14 with 12 servings at 20g protein each, that's almost just worth it to try. I also remember hearing about Ultimate Nutrition's Protein Isolate, made with wheat protein isolate. It's $19.99 for 57 servings, with 20g protein per serving. Have any of you tried this? ProCore also made a buckwheat protein that, while discontinued, is still purchasable online. It's a buckwheat protein and is caramel flavored. Any reviews on the above or any others? Also, any that are NASTY and should be avoided at all costs?
  5. I like where this thread is going. Plus, we all know there's only CA and North Korea. I had someone call me at work (a supplement shop) thinking she called a car dealership. "I was driving past and I saw a model I liked and I was wondering if I could setup a test drive." "Oh, no, this is [supplement store], a supplement store. You're trying to call [car place], a car dealership." "What's the difference?" "One is a store that sells supplements. The other is a car dealership." "What's the difference?" "We sell pills. You want the place that sells cars." "Oh. You do supplements?" "Yes." "Can you sell me a car?" "Only if you like Fords." *click* I had someone say, "I'm not talking to you anymore, you're closed-minded." We were talking just fine, but then a couple things came out (my religion and political affiliation, the latter of which I've changed), and she told me that. I said, "But if you're going to judge me based on that, doesn't that make you closed-minded?" "Well...uh...well...it's okay to be closed-minded to you because you're a closed-minded person." Each time I retell/type that exchange, the anuerism I had when she said that starts to bleed again.
  6. Well, you being broke and you eating pasta are two different things How so? Just downing a bunch of pasta isn't exactly going to help. It has its protein content and all that, but you should enjoy something more substantial that includes all your aminos. I suggest purchasing dry rice and dry beans. They will cost a little more, but a pound of dried beans prepared is more than a pound of dry noodles prepared, so it'll save you in the long run. Add some frozen veggies (usually $1 per pound) and your favorite seasonings, and enjoy. I'm not sure why you're working shoulders and biceps again after just having worked shoulders and biceps in your previous session. They need time to grow, so you should be working other things. It's true that you typically need lighter weights to work your shoulders, but at the same time, you shouldn't just arbitrarily pick a light weight and do your reps...it still must be challenging. In my opinion (based on personal experience and research), you're doing far too many sets and reps. Bulking is done with low reps (5 or less) and high weight. I know how frustrating it is to want to bulk and not be able to because, as a woman, I don't possess enough testosterone to really get big that fast...not as fast as I'd like. But your situation is different because you just aren't doing the right diet/exercise program to get the bulk you're looking for. Give it a shot...you've got nothing to lose.
  7. ...and I'm not sure about the universe." -Albert Einstein Based on a chat we had in the, well, chat, I decided it'd be a fun idea to start a thread dedicated to idiots you've encountered. Maybe it's at work, maybe it's something you overheard, maybe it's something someone said to you about being vegan...whatever it is, post it here so we can all laugh with you! This is from when I was in the Marines: We have to keep track of everyone in the company. Sometimes, they leave. One time, they were leaving to go to Iraq... Sergeant (Sgt): "Hey, I need you to delete the Marines that are marked as going to Iraq." Me: "Okay." Sgt (2 hours later): "I told you to delete the Marines marked as going to Iraq." Me: "Yeah, I did. There were only two." Sgt: "No, no, there are more than two." Me: "Well, only two were marked." Sgt: "No, no, no, you have to mark them, then delete them off the roster." Me: "Well, I don't know who's going to Iraq. I don't have the manning document [roster of names for those who are deploying]." Sgt: "Oh, no one does except for me. I'm the only one who has it, I'm the only one who knows who's going and who's staying." Me: (long pause in hopes she realizes what she's saying) Sgt: "Oh, okay, I'll take care of it." My first job was at a Wendy's. I gave a guy his change, which included dollars, and sent him on his merry way to the pick-up window. There, he raised holy hell because I "gyped" him on his change. Apparently, he wasn't aware of a dollar coin, and thought I short-changed him heavily. He also yelled until I replaced the dollar coins with paper dollars, because he apparently "didn't believe it was real money."
  8. If you're trying to bulk, you need to eat way more than that and lift way more than that. Hell, I'm disabled and a woman and I'm lifting more than you (my goal is also to bulk). That should tell you something. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just sayin' that if I'm doing it with my setbacks and goals, you should be hitting it harder. I hear you don't have the resources to lift heavy...I hate to break it to you: you gotta lift big to get big. You can't have bulking as a goal while using 10lb weights. It doesn't work like that. You should also eat more. That 1110 calorie dish you ate that you said filled you up half-way and also for a minimal amount of time should not have been followed up by a lunch of "almonds." You need to eat serious meals several times throughout the day.
  9. http://www.kalla.se/images/race2007/Magnus2.jpg I wanna be hooj. What else can I say? I don't want to be a man, I don't have penis envy, and I don't want to use steroids. But I do want to be as big as I can naturally.
  10. Everyone was enjoying some dessert and I didn't have anything available to me except a pear, and I didn't feel like eating a fruit...I wanted a dessert. You'll Need 1 pear per person, sliced and seeded 1 tablespoon olive oil or other cooking oil per pear 1-2 good pinches of brown sugar per pear Balsamic vinegar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract per pear To Do Heat a pan on medium heat, heat oil, add sliced pear. Cook until caramelized (golden browned) on one side, flip each slice to cook the other side. While caramelizing the other side, add brown sugar, vanilla, and a splash of balsamic vinegar. When it's nice and hot and caramelized, remove from heat, put on a plate, and add a swirl of balsamic to look fancy. I was surprised at how this tasted, because it tasted creamy, like I had melted vanilla ice cream or something in there. Here's a (not so good) picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/strawberryp0cky/recipes/Pears.jpg
  11. I think latkas have a specific recipe, but this is what I called it. You'll Need 1 medium potato per person, grated (I keep the skin on, but you can peel if you'd like) 2-3 tablespoons olive oil (or other cooking oil) per potato 1/4 diced onion or leek, per potato 1 tablespoon minced garlic, per potato Cooked pasta (about 1/4 cup per person) Fresh torn kale and spinach (about 1/2 cup total per person) Fire roasted red pepper, sliced (1 red pepper per person) Crimini (baby portabello) mushrooms, quartered (3 mushrooms per person), or use marinated mushrooms Salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and red pepper flake to taste Sliced green olives (1 tablespoon per person) Balsamic vinegar (to taste) Vegan pesto concentrate (paste) to taste Make It Heat a large pan on medium heat, heat oil, add onions and garlic, sautee until translucent. Add shredded potato and form into a pancake. Cook until crispy, add a spot of oil on the uncooked side, then flip and brown on that side. When the second side has just about browned, add all the ingredients except for the olives, arranged around the potato pancake. Season to taste and cook until greens have wilted a bit and everything's heated through. Serve with the potato on the plate and the rest of the ingredients on top. Garnish with olives, and a swirl a little balsamic around it to make it look pretty. Here's a picture of it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/strawberryp0cky/recipes/pastalatka.jpg
  12. Jaleel suggested I post something easy. You'll Need 1 small onion (or half a large onion) or leek, diced* 2-3 tablespoons minced garlic* 1-2 cans diced tomatoes* 3-5 tablespoons balsamic vinegar (to taste)* 1-2 shots whiskey, scotch, or bourbon * 1 zuccini, sliced 1 yellow squash, sliced 1 handful grape, cherry, or other small tomatoes 1 handful torn fresh basil 1 handful torn fresh spinach 1 handful torn fresh kale 1-2 cups crimini (baby portabello) mushrooms, washed and quartered 16oz whole grain pasta 2 cups frozen veggies of your choice Salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and red pepper flake to taste 2-3 tablespoons olive oil (or other cooking oil) Make It Heat a pot on medium heat. Add oil, wait five seconds or so for it to heat up, then add the onion and garlic. Sautee until translucent. Add canned tomatoes, vinegar, and alcohol, and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add zuccini, yellow squash, and mushrooms. Start a pot of boiling water and cook the pasta. When it's 2 minutes from being done, add the frozen veggies. Drain as usual. Add the kale, spinach, basil, small tomatoes, and seasonings. Let simmer 5 minutes. Serve loaded marinara over the pasta/veggie mix. *If you'd rather, you can omit these items and just use a pre-made marinara
  13. This is food porn. Please warn me next time. Thanks.
  14. Hot damn I thought that was a fractal. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q282/jroder/fractal-green.jpg

  17. I believe the technical term for your progress is "fuckin' righteous!"
  18. I notice that this is from over a year ago, but the 5x5 is quite near and dear to me. Are you still having the same trouble or interested in it? I looked at your training journal but it seemed to stop near the point that this was made. I see that you're still visiting the forum, so I figure I should ask.
  19. 5'7 or 67" or 170.2cm Most people online expect me to be taller. I wish I was
  20. Everyone's posted a lot of great replies. What did it for me was a link that a fellow vegan gave (I had the same question) and it said something to the effect of, "Bees work very hard to produce the honey that they do. They deserve to keep it." Honestly, that's true. Their honey is taken and usually replaced with some bullshit sugar-water concoction...if they get to stay alive, that is. Especially with your roach hatred, it might be hard to think of bees as animals instead of just insects, but let one land on you and try to pet it (be gentle) and you'll notice that they are just loveable creatures.
  21. Great post...but there will be those who claim "Yeah, but it was only for 12 weeks."
  22. Does anyone have a list of the different bioavailabilities of various proteins, both vegan and non-vegan? Thanks in advance.
  23. Thankfully, since that's my goal! Since cutting out animal products from my diet, I have noticed nicer gains. We shall see!
