  1. Suz makes a killer hummus pizza crust for her vegan pizza (no fake cheese - yech!). Try spreading hummus between 2 whole wheat tortillas as the crust. It adds a little bulk. So good!
  2. Oh, hey, anyone know how readily available diesel (or biodiesel) is on Hwy 101 (between Cannon Beach and the Bay Area)??? Our car has a range of about 250 to 310 miles give or take a few. I've never driven a diesel down. Maybe this is a weird place to post...
  3. Thanks, loveliberate! Awesome info. So many choices! Look forward to meeting the Portland crowd - you people are tight! While in SF, we're staying at the Hotel California for a couple nights and are going to check out Millenium (in the hotel), and hopefully a couple other SF vegan joints. We'll put a review of Millenium on our site. We'll of course also write a detailed journal/reviews of our vegan roadtrip and all the places we're going to try, incl. Food Fight. So excited! Keep ya'all posted... Trev

    Hi

Hi Suz - you finally joined! And Acadia and Cascadia are different!
  5. Yeah, the ropes bring a whole other element in... Did the L-seat for 9 seconds tonite! I'm stoked - been eating almost all raw, and tons of fruit. You inspired me to reach higher. Then my wife did 5 seconds! That really stoked me, we're both going to do this excercise a lot. Thanks!
  6. Robert, we're gonna be in Portland Thurs. Nov. 30 around mid morning. We're planning to stop at Food Fight to stock up, then hit the road to SF. You in town then? Probably stop thru Portland on the way back up the coast on Dec. 8 as well, same time of the day. Probably check out a restaurant for lunch. Any recommendations? Actually, any favorite dinner spots in Seattle as well? Trev
  7. That's crazy -- I think I got about 3 seconds. Gonna do this one more.
  8. Thanks for the info Bigbwii... I'm glad to see the headaches are common. I wasn't planning on committing to 100% raw, but after a few days, I'm definitely feeling good. After a taste of the raw life, I think I'll make a real effort to eat more raw than not. Maybe raw all week at work (where the cooked food is heinous anyway) -- Suz has been making me amazing salads to take, and there's an abundance of organic fruit at work usually. Then I'll relax a bit on the weekends, have a steak - just kidding - have something cooked, just not worry about it so much. It's not like I eat crap anymore. But, man, I did a lot of pushups after eating fruit all day long...
  9. My wife and I decided to try the raw thing for a week and after 3 days, we've both got these weird headaches -- feel like the detox headaches I got from doing a cleanse once (pre-vegan). Mine is almost gone as I write this, but I was surprised by it. I thought my normal vegan diet was pretty good. Anyone else experience this, or know if this is common? I'm not discouraged about raw food -- I've had tons of energy. Did a single set of 75 pushups last night after a 14 hr work day. And Suz cranked out 50 or 60, I lost count. My raw food has consisted of a lot of fruit of many types, lots of green vegetables, and some nuts and seeds. Our goal wasn't to go completely raw, but significantly increase the amount of raw stuff in our diets. And, sorry in advance for not using the search function... just wanted to increase my post count.
  10. Thanks, CollegeB! It's still a bit of a work in progress. I guess I wanted to do something a bit more than a blog, or a myspace, so we created our own site. I'll do my best to keep the content fresh, with blogs and news bits. I'm hopefully going to do something more with it along the athletic line. Suz should have some more cool desktops soon too.
  11. I guess the mechantchoco campaign is more of the same kind of tactics. It just seemed so blatant to me. It's like they're waving the truth in our faces, then laughing at us because we're too dumb to see it, and realize it's killing us. By 'our' and 'us' I mean the general milk-consuming public, obviously. It kinda' irked me. And thanks for the compliment, _raVen_, it's a real boost coming from peers, expecially since I'm still somewhat new to the vegan world. Cheers!
  12. I have mixed feelings about zoos -- but for the most part I think they're a meager attempt to update an antiquated form of entertainment by making a case for conservation. Marine parks are really controversial in this regard. I , too would like to think most zoo animals are rescued, but I fear that usually isn't the case. In film school my wife made a documentary about the Metro Toronto Zoo, and I helped her film it. I remember being quite ed at some exhibits, particularily the baboons, who were all trying to reach the long grass outside their completely concrete cage. The Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia had some pretty oldschool type cages. They had a Kodiak bear from Canada in an outdoor pen the size of a small, urban backyard, with a pool maybe 15 feet across. The bear had lost most of its fur, and was really skinny, probably because of the Australian climate. It was also completely alone and seemed to be behaving a bit neurotically. The Taronga Zoo also had McDonald's sponsorship everywhere. I have photos somewhere of the signs. They're quite ironic. On that trip, we also went to the Australia Zoo in Queensland -- this is the zoo owned by the late Steve Irwin, the Croc Hunter (as if you don't all know!). They claim to have only rescued animals and it seemed pretty legit. They had dozens of Kookaburras that had been injured and couldn't have survived on their own. The zoo seemed to make a point of the fact that their rescued animals were all injured or orphaned by human activity. It was pretty good in terms of natural habitats, but like so many of these places it couldn't shed its cheesy, theme park atmosphere. You should have seen the souvenirs! I guess there are good zoos and bad zoos. The very word, zoo, has some negative connotations. I imagine that, like the endangered animals in their captive breeding programs, zoos are slowly becoming extinct. One thing's for sure, I've never left a zoo feeling happy that I saw some cool wild animals; I've always left feeling kind of sad that I saw a bunch of animals in cages, denied their natural lives. Sorta' like the feeling you have after leaving the dog pound.
  13. There seems to be a disturbing new direction in dairy advertising. I saw an article in the Globe and Mail newspaper about an ad agency winning an award for a chocolate milk campaign in Quebec. I can't help but wonder if we'll see more of this approach. Maybe it's me, but I found it a little on the sick side. Here's the link to my blog about it: http://www.veganunderground.com/debrief.html You'll find the link to the campaign's website there.
  14. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! In answer to the whole cycling-injury-kickboxing thing -- I was doing bike trials at the expert level where stuff's pretty committed (check out www.observedtrials.net ). Anyway I hurt my back badly last year, then my hip, then my back again... kickboxing is way safer -- there's no jagged rocks to fall onto, or slippery logs to fall off of. Of course, I did get a rib broken while sparring last week...
  15. Sweet! I think we'll be thru Portland on Dec 1st, early afternoon-ish... I'll get my itinerary together and let you know. I can't remember how long the drive is if I stick to the I5 (usually cut over to the coast at Olympia). Probably never do that again! Would be cool to meet up.
  16. Being that I live in the birthplace of Vega, ordering it from Food Fight would be silly. I am planning to stop at Food Fight on my way down to SF to visit friends tho - Dec.1st I think - and I'll most definitely be picking up some snacks. I'll make sure some of them are vega bars and the small powder packs, just to support them too. Of course, with all the t-shirts and stickers and other goodies we'll probably buy, supporting them won't be a problem. Food Fight rules - wish we had something like that up here. Hmmm. I drink vega shakes after every workout, which is like 5 times a week. Mmmmm, vega. Natural flav for me.
  17. Hello everyone, I'm Trev from North Vancouver, BC, Canada and I'm a vegan. Phew, now that that's over with...
