  1. I don't really like now to eat oats for breakfast, it slows me down in the morning, I think I'l have vegetables instead of oats, I'm still experimenting a lot with my diet, and have oats after workout

After a workout? Im not too sure about that one. Maybe before?

  2. too early to eat? like i mentioned i have oatmeal just about every morning. i think its the only thing that can get me outta bed at 7am. i love em. anyway, im wondering if that's too early to be eating. i get up at 7 and have to be at work at 8. which means im usually plowin through a hearty bowl of oats around 7:30. is that too soon?

i used to feel completely sick in the morning - no matter what. the thought of eating before noon was repulsive. now, im the total opposite. im into it.

  3. Whoa! That's what I had....17 years ago.

I was going to suggest that it's muscle tension from stress. Then I read that site. I'm glad they connect it with stress, because that's what caused it for me. But it took 5 years to realize that. During the 5 years, the tension would move to different areas(shoulder, back, legs, ankles). I came across the book "Type A personality" and it all clicked into place: anxiety, time pressure, multi-tasking, were the cause of 5 years of pain.

My throat only had a choking feeling when I swallowed, althogh eating "loosened" it up.

I didn't know there was a name for this. I think it's all stress(a clue is that the severity changes - as your stress will change through the day or week)

I have a handle on this now because I've become an expert in stress relief, and controling my Type A personality.

I was at the doctor the other day to figure this out. He seems to think it's acid reflux. I had reflux years, and years ago. When I was youngster. Which I acredit all the junk food, and loads of pop I was devouring at the time.

What I've been experiencing lately is completely different. I don't get the burning or upset stomach feeling. Which apparently you can still be refluxing without those symptoms.

I go back in a few weeks for a barium swallow, and some other tests. In the meantime he put me on nexium once a day for a month. It seems to be working already. But, it's really tearing my stomach up. Which he said it might. The nexium is supposed to control the acid, and give my esophagus some time to heal.

I've also been chewing on candied ginger after a meal. That also seems to be helping.

  4. Get Well Soon!!!!! This is truly an epidemic, it is so widespread. I hope you are able to consume some good liquids and get some rest.

It really is...quite scary. I just made some soup, and toast. I guess that's the best Im gonna do until this passes.

  5. Thanks for the advice. Honestly, I'm really suprised it hasn't been worse. The past few months I've been around so many co-workers, and customers who has been super sick with the flu. The people I work with have had it multiple times. They get it full blown. Diarrhea, vomiting, sneezing, coughing, etc. Nasty stuff. So, Im not complaining. I just wanna eeeaattt.

I haven't let it get me down though. I still managed to get my workouts in. And, on the weekend I usually only do cardio, and some body weight stuff. So, I'm not too upset. But, I got up today thinking it had passed. Thought I would jump some rope for awhile. Not even 15 minutes in - the gurgles returned, and had me haulin' it to the commode. I always thought "explosive diarrhea" was a dramatization.

  6. I've had the skids for 2 days now. I've never experienced a stomach virus like this (assuming that's what it is). Other than cramps, and gurgles I feel alright...just destroying the toilet every 20 minutes.

I haven't really eaten anything either. A few bananas, applesauce, and loads of water. That's about it. From what I've read thats all one can really do - no? I hope this passes soon - I'm pretty hungry.

  7. I've never done splits, or isolation exercises. My workout looks something like this:

    Day 1

    Bench

    Incline

    Dips

    Pushup bars

    Day 2

    Squat

    Deads

    Seated DB Press

    Pullups (narrow)

    Day 3

    DB Press (slow)

    Pushup bars (slow)

    Cleans

    Bent Over Rows

    Pullups (wide)

The days in between I usually jump rope, and do ab, calf, or various body weight exercises.

I feel as though I'm getting stronger, but I'm not showing it at all...I still look scrawny.

  8. I couldn't connect to that link. Looking at this name of the link, I assume it has something to do with your vocal cords? Maybe you are pulling some throat muscles while lifting? This is much better than what I described! However, you might want to change the way you're breathing to avoid an injury.

    Cricopharyngeal spasm

Information for patients with a lump in the throat sensation

This syndrome results from a spasm in the cricopharyngeus muscle. It is a self limiting disorder that will resolve on its own.

    Symptoms

    * Lump in the throat sensation

    * feels like a golf ball, tennis ball, fur ball... is stuck in my throat

    * feels like my tie is too tight

    * feel like I am being strangled

    * my throat feels swollen

    * The symptoms can be mimicked by pushing on the cartilage in the neck just below the Adams apple.

    * The lump comes and goes depending on the day.

    * Symptoms are usually best in the AM and worse later in the day

    * Stress aggravates the symptoms.

    * Saliva is difficult to swallow yet food is easy to swallow.

    * Eating, in fact, often makes the tightness go away for a time.

    * The symptoms are similar to getting choked up at a wedding or a funeral.

  9. Anyone ever get this? I thought I was catching something. I've had this tightness in my throat for 2 weeks now - almost suffocating. It feels like a giant lump in my airway. It gets really bad at times, and I feel like I can't catch my breath.

It finally went away a couple days ago, and just then returned tonight after a chest workout. Im wondering if it has someting to do with my breathing when im benching.

  10. not fully related, but i got my order of gemma today (5lbs of unsweetened vanilla) mixed it with a cup of frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup of frozen papaya, and about 1 1/2 cups water, and it is the best shake/ ice "cream" i've ever made

That's almost the basis for all my shakes. I just found a new favorite i think though. Couple pieces of banana, couple frozen strawberries, some frozen cherries, 1 cup of water, and vanilla gemma. Chuggin one down now.

  11. I've been concerned that one of my problems may be hypoglycemia. The last two times I saw my physician my glucoses's were drastically different. The first time I went I had a big hearty bowl of oatmeal and my glucose was 58 the second time was a 12 hour fasting blood sugar, and it came back normal at 85.

From my personal experience i know that the blood sugar levels change very fast..The only way to find out is by measuring it by yourself..

Also i suspect that you may have intolerance in many foods..It would be a good idea to have a food intolerance test..

I'm not familiar with food intolerances. So, Im off to research those.

That sounds like an thyroid disorder, did they check your thyroid levels?

That was a concern. Tested negative for thyroid disorders.

  12. I've always done my workouts at home (except for the odd drop in to a gym when the weather is horrid)

Cardio consists of running, cycling, and nordic track

weight training consists of dumbells, barbells, and my weight bench.

Working out at home has been okay for me but I'm finding that the constant hassle of hauling out the weights, changing plates, putting away everything is a real pain!!!

what do you think are some of the pros & cons re: joining a gym versus working out at home?

I'm debating the same thing. I had a gym membership a couple years ago. Really nice place, great equipment, and was rarely busy. It was about 15 minutes out of the way from my commute home, but it was worth it. The cost caught up to me though.

I've been training at home since then. But, it's hectic having other people in the house that also train at home. And, also want to get a workout in right after work. So, Im trying to find a gym again - the options are pretty limited. But, lifting at 7pm after working all day is ruining me.

Sounds like you already have some equipment. If so why not just workout at home? If I had a power rack, a couple more dumb bells, and lived alone I know for sure that's what I'd do.

  13. Do you chew enough what you eat?Eating without good chewing(more than 50 times) especially fruits can lead to many problems including unstoppable hunger..

Also if i were you i would buy a glucose test kit and measure my blood every 2 hours for a day or two to see in what levels it is...

I do have a tendency to eat fast. So, I really try to focus on lots of chewing.

  14. another thing you can try is having 2 more "mini meals" during your day.

have a fibre rich snack mid morning, and another mid afternoon.

    It really works!

I've definitely noticed that on days where I don't do this, I'm just RAVENOUS!!!!!!

I do that. In between breakfast, and lunch i have fruit, and maybe some granola or a bar. Then the same between lunch, and dinner. But those mini meals turn into giant meals. What are you suggesting for a fiber rich snack?

I know oatmeal is supposed to be so fulfilling, and satisfying. But, it just makes me crave, and junk afterwards.

  15. what about hydration?

    Are you drinking enough water?

I've found that drinking tea staves off my hunger.

Every so often I get those days though... I know where you're coming from

I only drink water. I take a 2 liter to work, and usually drink half of it. Then the rest throughout the day.
