  1. Robert, as you may have heard, I'm working to get our family on the "official" list. But we'll probably stay in our own place. Question is: Is there a better area to be located in Portland based on the events taking place during VV07? We would like to be as close to everyone as possible. -Matt
  2. Thanks, Michelle. This thread is useful. I'm working with my wife to get us to join up with the Vegan Vacation during that week somehow. We want to be there...probably will drive, though
  3. There's tons in Silicon Valley just over the hill from me. But likely not as many vegans there. You can live here in Santa Cruz (a very progressive town) and commute every day by car, but that would be against my bike commuting religion...
  4. Bummer. I needed to cut down my sugar intake anyway. I guess raw is really the only way to go. Pretty surprising, though.
  5. There are a number of Bike To Work Days/Weeks/Months around the country and most communities have their own version. I strongly encourage you to find co-workers and take at least one day to try it out if you haven't. It's a blast and you'll feel great! The League of American Bicyclists has the larger organized version, but just about every community has something, so please check the web. http://bikeleague.org/programs/bikemonth/
  6. What happened to compassionate girl, anyway? Haven't seen her around...
  7. I also had wrist pain. I'm not currently doing lifting, but I know how debilitating it can be. I'd also suggest switching your mouse to a "left-handed" position. I'm doing that now, it only took a week or so to get used to, and my right wrist pain is completely gone. Also, if you use a trackpad on a laptop, try using an external mouse (on the left). This really is what happened to me (using the trackpad, that is), clicking so much with my thumb messed up my wrist.
  8. Still sick today and home from work, but pulling out of it. Rest of the family seems to be as well. Eating much less, big decided to do an informal pushup session at the suggestion of Bigwii in another thread. Hit 25. Not bad for me... Watched Vegan Fitness Built Naturally earlier which was fun to view again. Got focused on the acid/alkaline deal again and want to eat more raw veggies for that. Looking forward to bike commuting to work again; we'll see tomorrow.
  9. Too early for Tour de France favorites?
  10. With so many people eating whole foods here, just curious how often you go shopping? Do you shop for food for just the next days, next couple days, week or more? We find it a big hassle with the two kids to get out regularly, so we buy bulk when possible but some of our diet is still pre-packaged foods, though we go for non-GMO and organic. We shop about twice per week for food.
  11. This may seem like a dumb question, but I've heard or read from someone that cooking or heating only up to a certain temperature is considered 'raw'. Or maybe it was that it didn't break down the 'living enzymes' at a certain temp?
  12. Awesome, Robert. Yet another reason for us to move there...
  13. Man, this is one of the most interesting threads I've read in a long time. Interesting stories!
  14. Why does this have to be my last spam post? Robert is on his way to kill this thread...
  15. Yo, Robert...cool to share this story about "coming back". You're an inspiration and I'm hittin' the weights right now. RIPPED! Awesome
  16. Welcome, Poncho. Good for you for becoming vegan so early in your life. 15-20 is a great gain, I agree. Good luck!
  17. Home today with mild cold. The whole family has it and I was the last to get it. Ate or drank nothing but tea until around 2pm; slept most of the morning. Made fettuccine with red lentil sauce, celery and onions. Really seemed to get the system back on track. Drank some more tea. Then some more. Feeling much better. Back to sleep.
  18. Ok, then, I think I understand now
  19. Yeah, I like Zabriskie. I've always liked Julich, too, as he's from my area here, but he's a bit over the hill...hehe Zabriskie reminds me of David Millar (of Scotland). They always have been good time trialists, but they really need to improve their climbing and be more consistent if they are to do well. I hope they both surprise me and get to that level.
