  1. iambrian, I have had a similar experience. I went raw 80-10-10 for a time and it was not the best for my body, I needed to add a small amount of cooked food (mostly beans and vegies) for strength and centeredness. I think it is so important to listen to our bodies, all of us have different bodies and different lives (activities, stresses, etc.). We build muscle differently also. I just wanted to encourage you to keep reading and learning and listening to your body because that seems pretty smart to me.
  2. Not losing any muscle, just fat! And feeling so good... http://i50.tinypic.com/2hs59tw.jpghttp://tinypic.com/r/2lt1sm0/6 http://i49.tinypic.com/2dt0qpd.jpg
  3. The same thing happened to me and I'm a Mesomorph. I followed the McDougall "Starch Solution" diet and gained 6 lbs before I knew what hit me! It's gone now but sheesh, I thought I'd lose weight as long as I got rid of meat, dairy eggs and oils. Nope. After that I found Dr. Fuhrman's "Eat to Live" which has been the answer for me, I'm steadily losing a lb a week now. Good luck! I just had to post, cause I thought it sucked so bad to gain weight like that on a version of a whole foods plant-based diet, it felt really unfair lol. My husband lost weight on it, so I'm sure it works for a lot of people, but not for everyone, that's for sure.
  4. Just wanted to let you know you're in my prayers today. Praying for a complete and FAST recovery!
  5. Yep, that's me. It's been taken down now, it was up for a week and had 2800 likes. I was pretty blown away by the response.
  6. Another reminder to share the truth about health! The last thing I will do is judge anyone in America who is overweight. I'm on this forum because FINALLY, at the age of 49 I heard the truth about health and diet from Forks Over Knives, Dr. Fuhrman, etc. I heard about it from my dad who became a vegan at age 70 and recovered from cancer. As a bodybuilder I was even more disciplined than I am now, trying even harder to eat "right", and I was gaining weight like a house afire. I was doing the best I could with the information that is available through current bodybuilding circles, and the current medical information that is out there and my weight was ballooning with no signs of stopping. There's nothing wrong with my self-control, I was doing EXACTLY what I was told (sold). I don't think that Americans have all of a sudden lost all willpower, we're being lied to and drugged with the Standard American Diet. The best thing I can do now is to get/stay lean and whenever people ask what I'm doing, take the time to really tell them.
  7. Thanks! Just started on 80-10-10, looking forward to the NEXT six months.
  8. This is how I've eaten for the last six months, and it completely changed my health, my life. The last two months I've even taken out most starchy carbs even if they are "whole" like potatoes, oats, or rice. Dr. Fuhrman's book "Eat To Live" (his six-week plan) is my blueprint and his section on True Hunger talked about how much better the good stuff tastes when we're eating because we're hungry, not for any of the other reasons. I can't believe how much I crave my spinach salad or bean soup!
  9. Robert, So glad you had some good runs! Just wanted to let you know we are pullin' for you. Your book and this website have been such a help to us newbie Vegans, you are doing so much good in the world. Be safe and healthy, with your never-quit-attitude you'll get there, wherever you decide "there" is! You're in our thoughts and prayers.
  10. Me too! I know I've got the temp right if he's not panting...

  12. Welcome to the Forum! Sounds like you will bring a lot of experience and knowledge. This is a great place for accountability, lots of awesome people.
  13. Welcome, Alex! I'm new to the board also, you're gonna love it here.
  14. As a non-vegan I "ate up" everything Oxygen and M&F Hers dished out over the years (you MUST have meat, eggs, dairy!) and really trusted them. I know, my bad. Now as a new Vegan I see everything differently and I'm pretty jazzed that someone had the guts to start a magazine that gives straight information that is in line with all the medical information I've recently learned through Forks Over Knives and Dr. Fuhrman. I'm sure they'll get the typo thing worked out, but in the meantime I am SO GRATEFUL for a magazine that features fit (even muscular) vegans, has protein rich recipes, workout tips and so much more. I talked about the magazine last week on my blog, I think "Vegan Health & Fitness" fills a much-needed gap and I want to help bring them as many subscribers as possible so they can continue! They are already in a lot of stores across the country, many Whole Foods are already carrying them: http://www.veganhealthandfitnessmag.com/where-to-buy/
  15. I've even been watching some of the trials! It's fun to watch the all-US competitors in the trials.
  16. Just watched America the Beautiful with my hubby. Hard to watch at times, but well worth it. Thanks for sharing.
  17. I don't have "Before and After" photos yet, but I have "Before and During!" I posted more in the Introduction section, happy to have found this awesome forum. TODAY: http://i50.tinypic.com/m8poc9.jpg 6 MONTHS AGO: http://i48.tinypic.com/2rqir8i.jpg
  18. Hello! I've been lurking and learning for a bit...so glad to have found this site, you guys are amazing! I'll keep this short and sweet. Saw Forks Over Knives and read a lot of books, the best for me being Eat to Live, never looked back. The last six months have changed (and probably saved) my life: - Lost 17 lbs - Resting HR from 100 to 60s - Allergies Gone - Insomnia Gone - My cardio went from nonexistent to INSANE I absolutely HATE putting a before photo out there (yuck!) but it's the only way to explain how excited and happy I am about the changes so far. I'm about 1/2 way to my goal...six months from now I want to look like Michelle Risley!! (We all need our dreams ) I've competed in bodybuilding in the past (at age 35 and 39). Now at 49 I'm lifting heavy and killing the cardio, and FINALLY have a diet that nourishes my body while getting rid of fat. I'm VERY excited to see what the next six months will bring.
