one time my boyfriend and i went out to eat and when i got my food it was stuffed full of cheese (it didnt say anything about cheese on the menu, and i didnt think to ask). I didnt want it to go to waste so i tried to pick around it. Just looking at it made me feel sick and was about to cry when we left. I couldnt eat any of it, i took it to go and gave it to my mom (she's not vegan).

Downed means that cannot stand/walk on their own when they are taken to slaughter. Often because of medical issues or broken bones. I do not think cows in that condition are kept by dairies

Jay, I wanted to comment about your post from way back at the beginning…. I know this got a little side tracked for a while. I often wonder about things like this. Do you or anyone else here think it’s justified to let a small amount of animals “suffer” to save a lager amount of animals. I used the quotation marks here because I don’t personal believe beings someone’s pet is bad or causes suffering in most cases, but I know that some people believe other wish. Anyway, I think living with animals, or seeing others live with animals does let people see that they have feelings and are intelligent, and is in general a good thing. What about zoos? I’m up in the air on this one. I think they can give people the same kind of insight to a lager diversity of life. I also think that there are many people who are curious about these animals and zoos are a better alternative hunting them. Also a lot try to keep lager animals as pets and can not properly take care of them, zoos are a good place for those animals to live if they could not be released back into the wild. However, breeding programs fail for them most part and of course those poor animals have to live in tiny little fake habitats.

Well, I took a fish and a strawberry, booked them a hotel room (with a jacuzzi of course), put on some Barry White, bought a bottle of 2004 Ponzi Tavola Pinot Noir (it’s a very good year), and then left to let the magic happen. And everyone here came to your defense until one by one you turned on us. I know that you mean well, but I think you must know by now you are digging a hole for yourself. Please learn to use your passion in a more constructive way. Perhaps take some writing classes. If not then I hope Rob will consider banning you because this forum has some great people and a great energy and we really need to stop fighting amongst ourselves. I hate having to inspect my food so carefully!!!! I dislike that being vegan makes me so different when it comes to what I can eat. Don’t get me wrong, this is not to say that I want to stop being vegan, I just wish everyone was. I wish that I could go to IHOP to get vegan pancakes, or that I could eat anything at my friend’s houses. DAMN IT WORLD…. BE VEGAN ALREADY!!!!!

Look at the post by kpickell. It is from 2003, but they are talking about the same thing. Topher said it was vegan because it only said vitamin d and didn’t specify if it was d3 or not. Kpickell wrote the company and the response was “Thank you for contacting 8th Continent with your inquiry. The Vitamin D added to 8th Continent soymilk is from animal origin. It is Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) from wool fat (lanolin). Thus, it is not a vegan product.” So just because it says vitamin d dose not mean that it is vegan.

My theory: With the whole patriot act vegans/ animal activists being called home land terrorists, this is just a cia infiltration to make us fight amongst ourselves so that we will not unify. Think about it, it all makes sense. If true animal welfare spread across America and hunting was banned, how could Dick Cheney get away with shooting anyone and making it look like an accident?
