  1. I like that; I think you did a great job. Was it hard to do? What program did you use?
  2. I glad I’m not the only one who didn’t know about this. I was reading some of my boyfriends old copies of Ad Buster yesterday when I came across this article. Back in 2004 coke was marketing its line of bottled water (Dasani) in the UK. Their slogan is “as pure as bottled water gets”. Apparently some controversy started when it was discovered that Dasani is not spring water, like some other brands, but simply filtered tap water. Coke defended its product saying it was more then just tap water thanks to its “highly sophisticated purification process.” This process is responsible for adding bromate to the water. The Food Standard Agency says bromate is "a chemical that could cause an increased cancer risk as a result of long-term exposure, although there is no immediate risk to public health". The legal limit for Bromate in the UK is 10 parts per billion but Dasani samples tested between 10 and 22 parts per billion. As a result coke recalled 500,000 bottles of water. My main question is why is any bromate allowed to be present in drinking water http://www.oehha.ca.gov/prop65/out_of_date/53102P65notice.html http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0320-08.htm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3550063.stm
  3. Did you make that chysander one?
  4. I took my first step toward making this all happen… I just turned in my letter of resignation. As of 4/1 I will be unemployed. Maybe this wasn’t the best way to go about doing things but between working 40+ hours a week and taking care of my son, working out, and dragon boat I can’t seem to find any time to work on shirts. I scared and excited.
  5. Whatever Aaron… if you don’t want to hang out with us its ok, you don’t have to make excuses.
  6. I’ve never heard about there being a difference between liquor and beer. Off subject: I am taking a class on alcohol and addiction. Part of it consists of me going to AA meetings. I went out Saturday night for my birthday and it was really weird being in a bar after being at those meeting.
  7. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you smile.
  8. I don’t know if you can even trust bottled water after the whole Dasani w/ bromate thing.
  9. I don’t think coffee is bad. Plan coffee (black) has 10 cal per 16oz. It has antioxidants, it’s an appetite suppressant, and I’ve heard it helps to speed up your metabolism. Small amounts of alcohol can help you to relax and beer also contains antioxidants. Alcohol does have a lot of calories and women metabolize alcohol at a slower rate then men. Soda is just empty calories and I don’t think juice is much better although at least it provides some vitamins. And it’s just retarded that people drink milk. Water is still the best.
  10. I guess that’s what I get for not keeping up in the posts. Try this… it’s not a game, but a cool site. http://www.snopes.com
  11. How long can you go? Don’t touch the blue things or the sides. Some far my best time is 15.1 http://tinyurl.com/56t9u
  12. Do you think coffee and beer are worse then milk and soda?
  13. maybe The owners of the blossoming lotus also put out the book Vegan World Fusion… their food rocks.
  14. I love Seattle! The university district is awesome! There are a lot of cool little shop on and around 45th, but the hotels in that area+ downtown cost a bit more. Seattle is full of vegetarian and vegan restaurants… there is a place on pike street (around fifth I think) called cyber dogs, I haven’t checked it out but I’ve been dieing to. http://www.vegguide.org/vendor/view.html?vendor_id=1174 If you want to do the whole tourist thing the space needle and experience music project are cool check out this web site for the city pass. http://www.citypass.com/city/seattle.html I’ve never done the harbor tour, but some times of the year there are orcas in the sound.
  15. I don’t know about for weight lifting, but in general I’ve heard that those belts are bad. I mean I think they might help some, but some times people using them get a since of being invincible then try things that they shouldn’t and actually end up getting hurt more frequently.
  16. Thanks Rob! I’m not planning on my web site being where I get most of my revenue. I think I could sell more at funky boutiques and maybe from the market…. Corvallis has some kind of little market too right? The web site would be more of my “home base” I guess. I could keep it updated so if a store wanted to order from me they could see all of my new stuff. I don’t mean this to be offensive in anyway but I think one of the reasons you don’t earn much income from your site is because you have a very small target of customers. (Vegan+ most likely bodybuilder+ uses the internet) There is totally nothing wrong with that, in fact I’m sure your tee shirts are great advertisements for your web site and the vegan life style. Some of the stuff that I am designing has a vegan or animal rights feel but I don’t come right out and say it so hopefully it will have a more universal appeal. At first when I thought about getting into screening I was thinking about more of a hardcore image but I know that that would have very limited success. In fact I technically I own a tee shirt design business called “Rose City Vegan Apparel”. If I sent out letters to retail shops with that on the envelope they would probable tear it up without even reading it….I need to think of a new name.
  17. I talked to Rob about this a little already. Sunday is my birthday (I’ll be 25) and I think I am possibly experiencing a quarter life crisis…. If there is such a thing. Anyway, I want to quit my job and work on trying to sell some tee shirts that I print. Ok here is the plan. Have at least 5 different prints to start. Take some pics Make a web site Print out flyers with the pics and web info Send flyers to boutiques that might be interested Possible set up a booth at the Saturday market Maybe advertise in Herbivore I am just wondering how many people here have web sites. What advice can you give? Did you set it up yourself? Did you pay someone to do it for you? Is anyone here self employed? Any advice on that? I have taken business classes but I am no where near being an expert. And as far as setting up a web site… I am so clueless.
  18. Do you live at a place where you could keep chickens? I don’t know if you are apposed to the idea, but if you really really HAD to eat eggs that might be the best way to go about it. I also think someone brought up clams before, saying that they don’t have a central nervous system/ don’t feel pain…. I could be totally wrong about that I don’t know. Anyway those are the things I would look into if I HAD to give up being vegan. Also I don’t think you would be selfish to do either of those things, every living thing has a since of self preservation. If you ate tons of meat just because you liked it then yes that is selfish, but if you ate just the smallest amount needed for you to be healthy you are just doing what you need to do to survive.
  19. People do really messed up things in the name of fashion. Here is a link to a place that sells those seal supplements I was talking about. http://www.trade-world.org/product-7365.html It clams they are better then fish oils because they are bio-filtered, meaning the seals body filtered out the impurities. I can see if someone wanted to use the argument that they “needed” meat to live, but I don’t see how they could justify taking animal juice supplements. What happens to the rest of the seal?
