Hi there, I am just looking into supplements that may help me to recover quicker from my workouts. I am a 20 year old female, I am vegan, and I am trying to gain muscle definition and shed fat, all to create that 'ripped' effect as I am hoping to compete in the 2014 Fitness Model Contest. Can you please tell me what supplements may be beneficial and what your advise would be? Even supplements before training and after, I am wanting results, and I think I may start split training so I can work more muscles each day? not sure, would love some help! I have looked into Glutamine, and thought this may be useful? I am just wanting to know is it Vegan and will it cause…

hello! i have recently started doing some weight training, just at home using a set of adjustable dumbbells. i am basically looking to build some lean muscle, cut down on body fat, and improve my strength. for now what i have been doing are 3 days a week doing a full body routine with dumbbells. i usually have a rest day in between each, and then one day of cardio or interval type training (usually either a 5km run or quick paced calisthetic/plyo style exercises). just looking for some input or critique of my current workouts. i am most definitely a beginner, with only some basic weight training in the past. here are the exercises i have been doing - i chose th…

I am not yet a raw foodist but I am leaning heavily towards becoming one. I am an athlete when it comes to running, playing five sports competitively (basketball, baseball, soccer, golf and ultimate frisbee) as well as a weightlifter I am very into calisthenics. I like to train with weights three or four times a week for about an hour each session and do high intensity cardio a couple times a week and steady paced cardio (like running or swimming long distances) two or three times a week. Eating the right amount of calories to support my body weight was relatively easy but if I become a raw foodist, I am concerned I will lose muscle mass. I am currently 6'0 and weigh 1…

since i go to gym i feel really good, but i am training only 3 times per week (monday wednesday and friday), so the days of rest i feel like "useless" and i would like to know if it's useful to make pushups (30 x 3) and abs (30 x 3) everyday to have the feeling of doing something for the muscles? or is it counterproductive for the body?

I'm starting a 5x5 routine today. I know about the big compound exercises and I will be doing those. I have heard a lot of conflicting info about how many exercises to do in a workout/day. I also heard that you shouldn't do isolation stuff while doing a 5x5. I also hear a lot about each individual needing a different routine. I'm still new to lifting so I'm sure I will see big gains from whatever I choose to do. I guess if anyone can give me a general idea of some of the big "no no's" I would appreciate that. Also, Rest periods?? Lots of conflicting stuff on that too. Can I lift again if I don't have any soreness the next day? Should I do one day on, one day off…

Because you are human(e), and you can't count calories all the time (even though you secretly still do)... What is your favorite cheat meal? What day of the week? Do you plan that day around your cheat meal? Does it ever slip into the following day? I would have to say mine is a monster burrito, with chips, and salsa. Man, do I love tortilla chips. So much so that I make my wife take the remainder of the bag to work the next day. I also love beer. One other thing I have been thinking about for weeks is this donut shop across the street from work that has a vegan donut; different flavor every day. It's called Do-Rite Donuts (http://doritedonuts.com/), and it …

Today my trainer did an assessment of my progress, which was both positive, and negative. The positive was that my BF% is still at about 18%. Also, I have lost another 12 pounds over the last month or so... My measurements were also surprising, in that I lost three inches (from my previous measurements) from my neck, chest, waist, hips, biceps, calves, and thighs. I'm really only disappointed with the latter three measurements. My current composition is: 5' 7", 164lbs, 18% body fat, 33 years old. My current goal is: 160lbs, 10% body fat. As I mentioned in a previous post, I've only been consuming about 1600 cals per day, roughly macros at 100g protein, 50g fat, 20…

Hey everyone, I have a question about dips - I have an elbow issue that will only allow me to do shallow dips. I can't quite make it to 90 degrees - am I wasting my time with this exercise, or will doing shallow dips still hep put on mass? Currently, I'm wearing a weight belt with 1 25lb plate when I dip. Thanks

Hi all, I'm new here and I need advice to progress. I've made bodybuilding for 7 months now but I've still noticed any progress in the arms and very few in the chest. Actually, I've become fatter than before. My waist measurement was 78cm/30.7inches and now is 84cm/33inches. Maybe it is due to the fact that I am doing less cardio (I ran very often, 4 times a week). But I'm really beginning to fret about the absence of results and this increase of fat. And I don't understand how it is possible, for it seems to me that I'm doing everything properly. I sleep enough (7h) and I generally eat sufficiently protein (about 2g/kg). I am training myself 3 or 4 times a week. But b…

I've been strength training for the past 4-5 years. I like my gym and vary up my routine, but I have been doing more and more research about Crossfit. I like the concept, a lot of functional movements and high intensity exercises. However, I worry about whether these exercises are possibly too intense and could gradually wear down your body. For instance, doing some exercises like deadlifts to muscle failure appears to be dangerous as it becomes very difficult to keep your form. These concerns and research next led me to Gym Jones. Similar concept, but they don't have a "one size fits all" approach, and I don't have to find a box to workout in. Instead, they pro…

I never really checked how my back looked during a squat in the past, but recently I did because I was curious, and noticed my lower back curves when my ass gets to the grass. I've read it's because of tight hips and hamstrings. For about the last couple months I've done a lot of stretching (not just for better squats, more so for general health), but it's still curving. I've also tried to widen my stance, but no luck. Any ideas what can be done to prevent the curving? http://www.eatdrinklift.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/butt-wink.jpg

This is a post I put on another message board. Someone was asking me about my forearms so I replied with a few photos I'll share here: This comes up a lot. My forearms are pretty crazy......and I say that without exaderating (sp). I have to keep my body covered up in the gym because my forearms are nearly bigger than my upper arms! When I do massages, I realize that my forearms are bigger than nearly everyones' upper arms and as big as some girls' legs near the knee. So I wear a sweatshirt in the gym, rolled up to my elbows so the only thing people see are forearms popping with veins and looking crazy I'll post a few forearm shots just because they are kinda …

I am currently lifting 3 times a week. Always vegan, mainly whole foods. I usually lift 3 sets of 9 reps, with a heavy enough weight to fatigue on the 9th rep or so. But I never feel the pump. I have minimal soreness the day of the session, and only usually with chest do I feel muscle soreness the following day. So it leaves me feeling like I haven't worked hard enough. Any tips? My goal is to build muscle-strength, size and definition. Thanks

I am currently trying to shed a good 30 lbs. I weight train and do cardio, typically, 5x per week. Although, at this very moment in time, I'm recovering from an elbow fracture and have been stalled out, unable to lift for my upper body..I've been doing my cardio (20, sometimes 30, minutes on the revolving stairs, or, I'll do uphill, brisk, walking on a steep incline.) I'd like to loose this fat and redefine my muscles, once again. I've been successful on a S.A.D. and achieved some awesome results, however, for health reasons, I am going back to staying with a vegan diet. I haven't been doing it too long so here is what I've been typically eating: Coffee - 2 large bow…

Hi my friends I am thinking of taking creatine, want to start as soon as possible. Althought, I have heard that creatine, for women, increases the liquids retention on the body. Is that true? Thanks dani
