Our big strongman event in Milwaukee was on Saturday (of course, I couldn't make it after looking forward to it all year), but it was pretty cool that former pro Sam McMahon who puts the contest on was able to get WSM winner Brian Shaw to come out for the contest and help run the events. The day before, everyone got a session in at our gym, where Brian deadlifted 905 lbs. for 2 reps because "nobody had pulled 900+ in our facility before", just so we could say it had been done under our roof This was also done after a set of 2 reps @ 855 lbs. that looked far too easy, the man truly is a giant and strong as hell. Hopefully some of that insane strength will rub …

I've been reading a fair bit of posts on this forum and many others regarding a decline in motivation and consistent workouts, essentially just getting burnt out. I thought I would write a bit of a post to let some people know what goes on inside my head to keep me in the gym. About two years ago I was a small 150 lbs 5"10 dude trying to find my way around in life. I just transferred programs, moved 100 kms away from my friends and family and started a new life in a city full of racist, sexist and mainly those interested in getting drunk. I was an outcast. I didn't drink, I don't smoke, I don't go out, I mainly just hung around in my room. I transferred over to being ve…

I'm trying to tone my body, arms and what not. But I seem to have flat abs then a bit of a belly like a bump, could it be what I'm eating? Or do I just need to lose some weight?

Hey everybody, I've been reading some of the forum articles on here (in particular, this one http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1774) and have a couple of questions. I have been doing a bulk for the past few months (eating like crazy and lifting heavy) and have seen some good results. I have definitely got a lot stronger and put on some good muscle mass. However, with that muscle, came the chubs. I've been planning on moving into a cutting phase soon, but after reading the above article, I was wondering if instead I should continue my 3-4 days a week of heavy weight/low rep lifting and eating, and simply introduce a HIIT program on my of…

Hi guys. It seems hemp protein is going up in price quite a bit while pea protein (which has double the listed amount of protein as hemp) is now half the price. I'm not sure if they two are different between the UK and US (due to your food laws and ours) though I wanted to ask if anyone has tried it? Thinking of switching due to the price.

Does anyone know of any? I can't think of a single vegan woman who has competed on stage as a bodybuilder. I'm embarrassed to say that as the person who runs www.veganbodybuilding.com I'm proud of the vegan bodybuilding men who have done very well over the years in all parts of the world but I can't think of many or any female "competitive" vegan bodybuilders who have been on stage and who compete regularly. Anyone have info on this? I'd love to learn about them and get them on our website! I apologize if I am over-looking anyone. Just nobody comes to mind in "bodybuilding" off the top of my head. We have powerlifters, fitness competitors, figure competitors,…

Hello all. I have posted on this site but it was probably a year or so ago. Just after some advice off anyone who is willing to give it. Thanks in advance. Little bit of back ground. Vegan/straightedge for 6 years Have been actively cycling for the last 3 or so years Majority Wholefoods for the last year or so. I have never been "fat" or obese but at one stage I was eating vegan junk and not exercising. Since cycling I have shed some weight and I am currently weighing in at around 75-76kg. I am 191cm tall. A year or so ago I started going to the gym and lifting weights in the wish of building muscle. I assume my level or cycling and not eating right lead to minimal mus…

Comp was today! Man, I had a blast! Didn't place in the top 3, but I got in the first call outs for comparisons, so I think I came close! Feedback was my conditioning was great, but I needed a little more legs. I was well aware of this anyway but honestly today wasn't about placing for me! I'm just so proud to have given it my all and brought my best to the stage! I'm also just so excited and motivated now to keep improving and compete again! Posing for the camera after getting off stage During first call-outs!

In my opinion, this is one of the best article's ever written in the field exercise science .... Sadly he author passed away at the end of last year, Greg Anderson was a world class H.I.T trainer, and recognized by his peers as a scalar in his field. http://www.mikementzer.com/aerobic.html

hey everyone, I am FINALLY, after looking like an anemic pale weakling, am GAINING POUNDS and am tanner and my muscles have definition. I'm currently up around 10 pounds of SOLID-MUSCLE since I started!! I'm so much more confident and happy with myself I can't believe it. For the first time my abs and biceps feel puffy and dense. I weigh myself before I eat every morning at the exact same time, so this is true weight gain for me!!!!! Anyways, thought I'd give back a little and share some tips: #1: SUNLIGHT! 4-hours a day minimal. Our ancestors were out in the sun all freaking day! That's right, it's super hard for me here in the winter, but I find when I sit in th…

I am still pretty new to exercising. I was a gymnast for most my youth, but I have since had 2 kids and wasn't exercising much because my abs muscles split apart pretty badly during my pregnancies. I wasn't even able to do one sit up. It was so embarrassing. I felt so weak. I've been vegan for 7 years, and decided I wanted to build muscle and get strong for my 2013 New Year's resolution. My husband had bought a ReboundAir mini trampoline, and I used that for an hour a day, just bouncing on it, in hopes that my abdominal muscles would get strong enough so I could exercise again. Well, it worked. I can do sit ups now! And the gap in my muscles is gone! Yay! I started worki…

Hi, I've been bodybuilding for 6 or so months now and have finally got my routine and diet in check (for the moment at least) I just had some questions about abdominal exercises in my workout. I always read that the best way to do the plank is to hold it for as long as you can but I was just curious as to whether it makes more sense to treat it as any other exercise and keep the time under tension about thirty seconds or so. It seems illogical to me to get to a point where you can hold a plank for minutes without it being difficult, so adding some sort of resistance just like with any other hypertrophy inducing exercise makes more sense. Although I could be absolutely wro…

I've been off and on training since I was 16, I am almost 23 now. I'm not too close to my fitness goals, weighing in at 170/5 at 5'11 when I'd like to be 185. I hit it hard over a year ago with the power/hypertrophy plan by layne norton for three solid months, but I fell off the wagon after relocating for work and no access to a gym. I've been trying to get back to that mode of progress for a while now but I repeatedly find myself lacking endurance to pump out those last few crucial reps that signify lactic threshold, which I believe is just causing me to waste a lot of time. For hypertrophy days I will use a weight and get to the 10th rep with solid form but then I s…

I have been working out for 43 days now, and seeing great results. I am 5 feet tall and weigh 90lbs. I have gained 2 lbs since I started, which is part of my goal, and have lost a lot of my 'love handles'. I would like to weight 95lb, so basically I want to gain 5 lbs of muscle. I hope to accomplish this in the next 9-12 months. At that point I would like to compete in bikini competitions. I use to be a gymnast and was very muscular, so I know I can get all those muscles back. I was a vegetarian when I was a gymnast, but I have been vegan for the past 7 years, and had two kids in that time. Is it best to focus on upper body one day, then core/abs the next, the lower bo…
