Guest
Daywalker and I ran into the same problem with ice cream. So long as you don't put hot fudge on it or make fried ice cream you're good to go.

I don't think icecream is considered raw is it?? Or tofu right? They both go through various processes which are unraw, as far as I knew anyway. Astrocat
I don't think icecream is considered raw is it?? Or tofu right? They both go through various processes which are unraw, as far as I knew anyway. haha, no I don't think so. Tofu is primarily made out of soya milk, which itself is made through a process of boiling soya beans..... so while people will often talk about eating "raw" tofu, very few will actually do this (as raw tofu is an extremely fresh, reputedly warm product which wouldn't be being sold in packaged but rather usually in specialist tofu bars and suchlike. As for ice-cream, er.... no that stuff has been manufactured to death a lot of the time, and even if people are packing down stuff from a more natural end of the spectrum than Tofutti Cuties and suchlike, it can not be classified as raw in any way, i would have thought. From reading what has been said, i imagine that Veganpotter was being somewhat amicably facetious. You'll also want to be mindful of packaged smoothies, because they're usually pasteurised (aka. 'cooked a bit') And folks who like stuff which may not be immediately obviously cooked will want to be mindful of those also, for example Tahini or nut butters, Hoummus, margarine... I don't know whether herbal tea is off the menu ? It's pretty much just hot water with a little bit of steeped herbal residue mixed in though, but it's still hot stuff, and not a natural thing to encounter, etc.
Richard
I'd have thought that the hot water makes it non-raw technically. But it depends what you want to achieve - In my opinion, the main thing about a raw diet is that you're getting the most nutrients out of your food, and also reducing health risks. I don't know the nutritional difference between raw tea and hot tea - I don't think there will be much in it. A lot of fruit smoothies around here are fresh rather than UHT, which is why they're in the fridge at the shops as far as I know. So I am hoping they'll still be on my menu, wooha

Richard
Okay, I am getting a head start to see how it is now, so today I've been raw so far and I'll see if I can keep it up!
Veganitaliana
Ok, I accept the challenge, but I need help for an upcoming event. At home, I'm pretty sure I can do this because I'm in control here. At the end of July however, I'm going to Toronto to be with my family and go to a big Italian wedding. How am I going to survive the temptations of all that pasta?!!!! I need help... flameska
Make some zucchini or squash pasta with raw pesto, alfredo, or marinara! It is so much amazingly more flavorful! It's weird, because often I'll crave cooked spaghetti because it's bland and stuffs you. It's weird to want that feeling instead of alive refreshing yumminess sometimes. I am craving going back to raw like mad! Kale smoothie? As in juicing it first, or just chop the leaves with the rest of the stuff?? I usually juice the kale first, but maybe I should try just chopping them up instead? (can't stand eating it, especially not dinosaur kale. I tried, but after trying to eat my salad for over half an hour, my jaws and teeth were too sore)

flameska
Yeah I just throw whole kale leaves into my vita-mix, with whole oranges or any other fruit. It's good and the seeds in the oranges blend well too. It will be sweeter if you just use orange juice though.
LizWorld
Kale is good in salads you don't know what you're talking about girl... for 30 mins I tried to tell my jaw and teeth how good it was fo me! It didn't work! Then I got food poisoned so Im not exactly best friends with any kind of kale! But they are healthy, so I will try to blend them in a smoothie. At least then I don't have to chew them.
