  1. The Organic Consumers Association is leading the charge on defeating this bill, so I'd imagine there is an impact on organic farming. I think it's important for companies to list what is really in their foods (pesticides, growth hormones, allergens) - it might not affect 99% of what I eat - as far as I know - but it might affect what my family and friends eat.
  2. Yes, of course I was joking. I'm not sure any fighter could last too long in MMA without knowing some BJJ. I don't know what Babalu was thinking - it's like he thought he could go toe-to-toe with Liddell. Liddell's uppercuts were deadly - that guy has some HEAVY hands. Deadly striking.
  3. The House of Representatives has passed a controversial "national food uniformity" labeling law that would take away local government and states' power to require food safety food labels such as those required in California and other states on foods or beverages that are likely to cause cancer, birth defects, allergic reactions, or mercury poisoning. This bill would also prevent citizens in local municipalities and states from passing laws requiring that genetically engineered foods and ingredients such as Monsanto's recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) be labeled. Soon, the Senate will vote on this bill, which would gut state food safety and labeling laws. The "National Uniformity for Food Act," lowers the bar on food safety by overturning state food safety laws that are not "identical" to federal law. Hundreds of state laws and regulations are at risk, including those governing the safety of milk, fish, and shellfish. The bill is being pushed by large supermarket chains and food manufacturers, spearheaded by the powerful Grocery Manufacturers of America. Big food corporations and the biotech industry understand that consumers are more and more concerned about food safety, genetic engineering, and chemical-intensive agriculture, and are reading labels more closely. They understand that pesticide and mercury residues and hazardous technologies such as genetic engineering and food irradiation will be rejected if there are truthful labels required on food products. This industry-sponsored bill is gaining momentum and must be stopped! Act now! Preserve local and regional democracy and protect yourself and your family from unsafe food by sending an email or calling your Senator. 4. We're doing the vegan potluck again this weekend. We're working on creating our own lil' vegan community like Robert talks about. We might even have a possible convert among the small group of attendees. Homegrown organic tomatoes and eggplants are the "secret ingredient" (it's like our little version of Vegan Iron chef). Woohoo.
  5. Well done Potter. With all the eating, posting, and riding you do, do you ever sleep?
  6. Yeah, I guess that Jiu Jitsu stuff isn't all it's cracked up to be. (totally joking - just recalling our conversation at Vita Cafe).
  7. I was hoping the BIG announcement was something better than Ortiz-Shamrock III, but hey, at least it's free. And hopefully they'll have some good undercard fights. Notice Shamrock doing a little image damage control when interviewing with Rogan? I think he knows he must have looked like a total a$$ on TUF 3. SPIKE has to go hi def, btw. What is taking them so long? We even have a weather channel that's hi def now. I don't need doppler in hi def, I need MMA in hi def! I'm gonna have to send an e-mail ('cuz that always works )
  8. I don't know if you saw the movie, but Gore covers this point well. He agrees that natural cycles occur, and points out that we are probably towards the peak of a high temp cycle now. However, he says, and depicts with a very effective graphic, that man's contribution to warming will cause the peak high temp to be MUCH MUCH higher than it naturally would have been. If he's right, and many more scientists think he is than don't, we're in deep trouble.
  9. Yep, that sums it up for me too, and pretty much everyone I know. I'm from Mass and I could barely vote for Kerry. Both parties give us crap to vote for and then complain about low voter turnouts.
  10. Yes! Pre-fight, McCarthy looks like the Pantera-era Anselmo. Post-fight, when he's glassy-eyed, swollen-faced, and slurring his words a bit, he's more like the current incarnation of Anselmo.
  11. Saw it, liked it a lot. He's a new man - much more engaging than the statue that ran for pres in 2000. I'd vote for him. Offense - it's hard to characterize or label the U.S. as being anything (like "skeptical of outside opinions"). 50% of the people may be skeptical, but the other 50% might be embarrassed at the way the world sees the U.S. Had Gore "officially" won in 2000, the opinion of the U.S. in the world would be very different, as Gore would have pushed a much more world-friendly agenda.
  12. When a cut is so bad that the blood is getting in the OTHER guy's eyes, maybe it's time to stop the fight. Perhaps if they were in a position other than Dewees on top pounding the hapless Ray, they would have. Lots of blood, but the fight on whole was pretty boring. Shoni needs his own show. The "it's not youuuu" part was the funniest moment of the TUF series. The look on McCarthy's face was priceless. And Shoni's pimp outfit was off the hook, over the top, etc. That guy is awesome.
  13. That SUCKS. I was really looking forward to that fight. Hughes and GSP are 2 of my favorites to watch (I'm not the biggest fan of Hughes either, but he's got awesome game. GSP is one of my faves though). p.s. I think darthvegan was agreeing with you on the "lucky" thing. As do I. p.p.s. "Lucky" is what Babalu probably got after teaching that Xyience gal to surf on the pre-fight show on Spike the other night.
  14. I wish we could make it, but Pittsburg is a bit far for a day trip. Hope you have a blast! Make sure you take pictures (flexing in as many as possible).
  15. Sorry to hear that. Hope your family is getting through ok.
  16. Welcome! Great to have you. I think you might be friends with my wife on myspace (I think she's "Devil's Haircut" there, and she's Yogita Chiquita here).
  17. YES, thanks loveliberate for helping make VV awesome! Special thanks for answering the 9 billion questions I asked about Portland, vegan parenting, etc...
  18. to the coolest, hottest, smartest, silliest, funniest, most compassionate gal in the world! I love you baby! Oh, and check out the new hairdo (she donated the cut hair to locks-of-love that makes wigs for kids with cancer - how cool is that?): http://myspace-300.vo.llnwd.net/01066/00/36/1066326300_l.jpg
  19. Ooh, good call. Is that a Vita-cafe reference? We ended up having 2 kinds of nachos (Crystal would be jealous), a tofu/mushroom/onion/garlic quiche, and...drumroll please... VEGAN CHOCOLATE CAKE!!! Good times, good times.
  20. Then we gave the dolphins an easy crossword puzzle, a really easy one, and they couldn't even do that! I'm not sure they can even read. Stupid dolphins.
  21. Our first really rainy day in weeks forced us to cancel our biking plans, so we've hastily thrown together a vegan potluck for tonight. So far we've got 6 attendees and a menu including quiche and manicotti. I wish we could beam you all here Star Trek-style, but I'm not sure Scotty has enough power in the engine rooms. We'll be thinking of you though.
  22. I don't want to comment about Liddell/Silva until Liddell/Sobral is decided. I'd love to see it, but I think Sobral is going to have something strong to say about it. Seeing Lesnar in MMA will be interesting as he is huge and strong. But, so will some of the guys he'll be facing. His wrestling will no doubt be top notch, but I wonder how his striking will be. Guess we'll find out. You know whatever happened to Mike Tyson in MMA? I heard rumors about that for a while, but nothing ever came of it.
  23. Not me, I love Tofutti. I have the cream cheese on my bagel every morning. I love the cuties too, but try to avoid them as they are addictive.
