  1. For me doing one leg squats with no additional weight feels about the same as doing a two leg squat with a bar w/ your bodyweight. I get a sore back from using the bar, but I love doing one leg squats, its my favorite lower body exercise. I'll do some tonight and post my numbers here if you don't mind since it feels like a similar exercise to me
  2. Tofu tastes better than meat Don't believe me Then try it, you'll see it's a treat Throw it in the frying pan And eat it with a yam And you'll go bam Like Superman Super vegan man Making sucka meaties Look like rotten cheese There ain't much of a fee For eating beans Staying strong and lean Like a big machine MC Popeye Eating Spinach Gots muscles bigger than your head Not like The fat man eating hamburgers Having a heart attack You stay back From that and go ack That junk my body lacks I stand back And watch the sucka meaties go crack
  3. I live in Florida and we got lots of hurricanes here. They've happened since long before humans ever developed the land here, and they're actually good for the ecosystem here because all the rain and the winds cleans out the wetlands and make the land fresh and green. I really don't think its that bad when the rains come in and push people out of their homes for a short time, you just have to make sure you prepare and have some canned goods and water ahead of time, and then you get the chance to live close to nature while the power is out. I think most Americans are just spoiled - if we don't have air conditioning, fast food, and TV sets for a few days, we act like its the end of the world.
  4. Cool, I like that one with the recycle emblem. I don't have any, but if I got tattoos I'd probably get one with my wife and son's name over my heart, or one that says VEGAN, probably on my back or down my arm
  5. Cool, good contest. Does going for high reps on one leg squats with no bar count?
  6. I like the Kash n Karry brand because its cheap and organic, $2.19 per carton
  7. A lot of people I've met from the ghetto neighborhoods are the ones that hate looting, and junk like that the most, because they are sick of thugs ruining their neighborhood. So I don't think the majority of the people in the hood support crimes like that. But true, yeah I remember reading the Cosby speech last year and I agree with a lot of it
  8. My issue is the slant with which things are presented. Even if the majority of the looters in New Orleans are black men, it doesn't mean that the majority of black men are looters - yet when I flip through the channels, I don't see the black people who are trying to help or save their families or members of the community, I just see looters. I think that only presenting a group in a negative way isn't being objective Ah ok I understand what you are saying. I have seen them show black people helping out too though, and that person with the first aid is one of them (cant believe they said he looted it, doesnt say it when I looked though). But if it is the majority of blacks that are doing this, I wouldn't have a problem because it was like this in LA. The black community needs to shape up in terms of stuff like this, and stop playing the victim role. I saw some more TV on Saturday and they were showing black leaders denouncing the looting and saying that the people who were doign that were just a small minority, and most of the community is against that stuff. So my first impression of the way it was covered may have been wrong (I don't watch that much TV), but teh stuff I saw on Saturday seemed to show both sides of the story better
  9. Mon Sep 5 situps, rows, wrist curls, deads situps - on an incline bench with a 25 lb dumbbell behind my head, did probably about 100 total situps, alternated every 20 or so between straight situps and twisting situps rows - did about 100 reps on each side with dumbbells (bent over rows leaning over a bench), the heaviest DBs they had at the hotel gym were 50 lbs so I used those. Then used the row machine, and set the weight to where I would fail between the 3rd and 5th rep, I did a few sets that way with each grip (you could hold it with wrists parallel to floor or perpindicular) wrist curls - with 75 lb barbell and reverse wrist curls with 45 lb bar, I did probably 40 or 50 reps each way deadlifts - finished with a few light sets of deadlifts, I was pretty tired by the time I got to them, I did about 20 or 30 of them at 175 lbs
  10. Sun Sep 4 Went to an amusement park and did a few miles of walking. Then went swimming at the hotel pool for a couple of hours afterwards
  11. Friday Sep 2 leg presses - several sets of around 5 reps at 400 pounds calf presses - several sets of 15-20 reps at 400 pounds pullups - around 50 total; about 35-40 of them were supinated and the rest were pronated

  13. That dude is intense. It makes me want to try training with some kettleballs
  14. Thursday Sep 1 2005 wrist curls with 75 pound barbell reverse wrist curls with 45 pound barbell weighted incline situps with 25 pound dumbbell behind head weighted twisting incline situps with 20 pound dumbbell behind head several sets of each exercise w/ an average of 20-30 reps per set
  15. I noticed that on the news as well. Anytime I turn it on, there are images of black men breaking windows, looting, etc. It makes me think of the bumper sticker "What Liberal Media?"
  16. Sallie Mae offers Stafford (I have some Staffords through them). Ask your school if they have them, because they are backed by the government, so you don't have to do a credit check, and the interest rates are lower. On subsidized Staffords you don't have to pay any interest on the amount you borrow until after you graduate
  17. Most gas stations in America have a diesel pump
  18. There's people working on that too. It's really cool stuff. There's a fuel cell power plant in Connecticut that is powered by landfill gas. See this article - http://www.epa.gov/appcdwww/apb/biomass.htm
  19. That's the principle behind hybrids, they convert forward momentum (when met with a resistance force from braking) into electrical energy
  20. Gas prices have risen enough that the price of E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) is now cheaper than pure gasoline. So hopefully gas prices will keep going up and there will be more incentive for E85 to catch on since it is more sustainable, and much cleaner burning
  21. Can you get Stafford or Perkins loans through your school?
  22. I thought whole foods were cheaper - for example, bulk rice, beans, nuts, and fruits and vegetables from local farmers
  23. In the picture it looks like either your right leg is slightly longer, or you are putting more weight on your left leg. Have you tried analyzing your walk to see if you are leaning more to your left side?
  24. Pete, I just started working on the 500 club; but for now, my plan is to do it on Saturdays. Right now, I go to the gym 7 days a week, and I'm planning on resting my chest/tris and abs on Fridays (possibly Thursdays too) to prepare. Also, as far as a schedule goes, I didn't really do that last time, I just would drop and do a set of 25 pushups or 50 situps whenever I thought of it. Next week, I'm going to try to stick to doing 100/100 per hour, starting in the morning, so I should be done by early afternoon
