  1. I wasn't in the zone because I was thinking outside the box
  2. That;'s awesome. I like the stone pictures the best. Whenever I think of a strongman I think of some guy lifting up big boulders
  3. Wed Oct 12 Did a bunch of incline situps with the 16lb bowling ball behind my head. I didn't count how many because I was watching the Daily Show while I did them. I also decided I don't need to set aside a whole day just for situps. So I'm going to alter my routine again to look like this: Day 1 - pullups / chin-ups Day 2 - one leg squats / one leg calf raises / running Day 3 - wrist roller / hand gripper Day 4 - pushups And I'm going to do 50 incline situps w/ bowling ball and 50 twisting situps with bowling ball before I go to sleep everynight
  4. Dude your ripped. You could look like you could take on Superman
  5. Whoa, nice work on the 2:08. I need to get on the ball and try to catch up
  6. I love artichokes. I was an all you can eat Asian/Wok style restaurant last weekend and I kept loading my plate up with artichoke hearts.
  7. Yeah we're planning to head out west in mid-December. We're going to stay at an extended stay hotel for the first month or so while we look for a place to rent. I've heard Corvallis is a cool town, so we'll have to drop by there sometime and hang out Robert. Topher we should jam on the guitars sometime once I'm out there
  8. The first photo is from a few years ago - you can see how scrawny my arms used to be. The second photo was taken today, after nearly two years of strength training. http://helios.acomp.usf.edu/~wpeavy/willpeavy-before.jpg http://helios.acomp.usf.edu/~wpeavy/willpeavy-after.jpg
  9. Me and my wife and son are still planning on moving to Portland in December. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys!
  10. I saw your comment in Lelle's journal about how you went from being only able to do one chin up, to being able to do 50 in only a matter of weeks. Great work on those gains! Chin ups are my favorite exercise
  11. Mon Oct 10 hand grippers and wrist rollers - used them until my forearms were burned out
  12. Sun Oct 9 Legs day. Before today I had been doing one-leg squats with the back of my hands/forearms leaning up against a doorway for balance. I read this article - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mahler2.htm - and decided to do them differently on Sunday. First I tried doing a few one leg squats without the aid of a doorway, and I had to really struggle to balance. So I tried the stair step method, sitting on a surface about 12" high at the bottom of each rep. I did a hundred reps like this. Even though I was doing a full one leg squat all the way down when I was using the doorway for balance, doing one leg squats with no balance is more challenging even with the 12" platform. At this level though, they are easy for my quads, just hard when it comes to mastering the balance required to do them correctly. I didn't even bother with the calf raises or running I'm scheduled to do on legs day because I was so focused on the one leg squats. Next leg day I plan to do another 100 one leg squats at the same 12" level in order to get the form down better, and then try for lower surfaces until I can master doing them all the way down, easily, with no leaning or using anything to balance.
  13. Tempeh is made from cooked and pressed soybeans. Tofu is made from coagulated soy milk. They have a different consistency. I think tempeh is chewier and I like it better, but that's just a personal preference
  14. Thanks Robert. I'm addicted to doing pushups now. I'm looking forward to seeing you and Topher join the 1000 club, I have a feeling I'll be there pretty soon too
  15. Howcome you hate back exercises so much? Which ones are you doing?
  16. Good to see a new journal on here! What about doing one-leg calf raises with no extra weight? It's basically the same as doing 2-legs with a 150 lb weight, except you won't have to worry about loading up the Smith
  17. Any thoughts on this article? http://www.cbass.com/Synaptic.htm
  18. I just read this article http://bodybuilding.com/fun/charles4.htm and realized that chin-ups means supinated grip and pullups means pronated grip. I used to think that pullups was an interchangeable word for pro or sup grip. See: http://bodybuilding.com/fun/exerpop.php?Name=Chin-Up Lately I've been doing supinated grip chins almost exclusively, but I'm going to start doing more pronated grips (true pullups) on my chin/pullup day so I hit my back more. See: http://bodybuilding.com/fun/exerpop.php?Name=Pullups
  19. I got a pullup bar that installs in a doorway at a local sporting goods store for about $15 US. If you have a playground nearby with monkey bars, you might be able to do dips at the end of the bars
  20. Pushups, benches, rows, squats, and crunches all on the same day - that's an intense work out. I bet you really feel the burn. Good work on your 50 reps of pushups!
  21. Fri Oct 7 a bunch of situps, didn't count exactly how many I bought a 16 lb bowling ball at the thrift store on Saturday that I can hold behind my head while doing situps next time
