  1. I am more than a year on a vegetarian diet and am transitioning this week to a full vegan diet starting next week. That is the plan at least. I know that a plant-strong diet will never lack in protein. I also know that I stick to the old-school idea of loading up on protein for bulking purposes. My main concerns are how much of the old-school ideas are applied to a vegan diet. Mainly concerning tracking macros and total calories. Who is doing it? What are your intake levels as far as carbs and proteins? Are you tracking calories? Who is supplementing their protein? Who is not? I know this works but I am still stuck on needing to research stuff to death so I know what to expect. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
  2. Of course!! I mix stuff frequently to get a variety of protein profiles.
  3. Wow!! Very nice!!! Ok, where is that subscribe button..... I think I may have found a new wallpaper for my phone. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
  4. As always, you come with good advice. I definitely believe in taking small steps. I am going to bulk for a little bit, maybe 6 weeks, and then switch to some cutting for a while. I agree that the body needs an adjustment period for each phase. "Baby steps Bob, baby steps." Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  5. I was told that 5 or less can be. 5-10 should be a little more reasonable. It also depends upon the "mirror" once I hit that level. I may not go that low.
  6. This is exactly what I tell people who question my vegetarianism. I'm not sure why. It just is. Maybe it's due to the fact that there are fewer chemicals in the body or the lactic acid is neutralized faster. I don't really know for sure. My theory, and only because I have noticed a physical change, is that my body does not have to work as hard to process the animal protein. If food creates a thermalgenic effect, the effect is less than what it would be. Example, my feet always sweat a lot. No more animal protein = less thermalgenic effect = less sweat. So if I'm not processing meat, I can focus that energy elsewhere. Sounds good in my head.. or so the voices told me. I may have it wrong but it makes sense. Poor meat eaters. Maybe we should have an intervention for them. Or every time they say they don't eat vegetables, we do what they do, "Well, what can you eat?" :=D Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. 7. I know ONE part of me that is smart. See, now I made you think. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.

  9. Thank you. Me too. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  10. I started Stronglifts last week. Definitely something that is out of my comfort zone. Many of those lifts are ones I never do. I read through the e-book. It's about 30 pages of useful information and the other 200 of sales crap about why his program is better. No problems. Only got to do about half the week because of school but it wasn't too bad. I figure on a couple of weeks to get used to the routine and get the lifts down correctly and then it should be a good workout for me. One more week of school before finals and I am really hoping to dedicate a good solid month to the gym. After that it gets hectic but slow progress is better than no progress. 11. Hmmm... maybe a little extra noise around the house would be a good thing. We trued a weight watchers recipe that used cake mix and diet soda. Kinda dry. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  12. I've heard of them but didn't know they made meal smack bars. I tried a pemmican bar today. Decent, but it would be difficult to eat them frequently. I will check the web for the Vega stuff. 13. That is either a bad ass cupcake or some really horrible sex. I'm gonna have to try those. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  14. My in-laws are understanding of mine and my sons dietary choices(vegetarian). They willingly prepare alternatives and never get offended if we do not eat what they do. They even enjoyed our "giblet" gravy alternative. 1 can of cream of celery, 1 can of cream of mushroom and some "not-chicken" chicken broth. They taste almost identical. A tofurkey, wheat rolls, stuffing, and some green bean and hashbrown casseroles and life was good. I am blessed to have very supportive in-laws. Heck, they even read the labels to make sure animal broth or by-products aren't on the list of ingredients. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. 15. I want to buy or make vegetarian or even vegan meal replacement type bars to help me get more of my mini meals. I would prefer higher protein and also whole foods if at all possible. Any help is appreciated in advance. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  16. OK. Several weeks into lifting again and more than two months as a vegetarian. Recovery is faster, energy is better. My scale weight is the same, my bodyfat looks the same and my midsection isn't measuring smaller. But, my strength is returning to what it was when I stopped a couple of years ago. I hope to be back to my previous levels in another month or so. Some of you guys here are inspiring and helpful. It is that reason I feel that I should keep moving and post my progress periodically. I hope to have a good progress picture soon. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  17. Damn guy! That's impressive. Great work. What's the next step? Bulk? Maintenance? Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  18. I read your post a few days ago and have been.looking for an article I read from a personal trainer. The gist of it is this: Many bodybuilders will cycle 2-3 months of bulking and then cutting. At the end of the year they net about 10-25 pounds of LBM. He set up mini cycles that were only about six weeks long. At the end of a year his clients would also have the same gains in LBM. The difference being that they would maintain a BF percentage closer to what they felt was ideal. This was opposed to gaining large amounts of BF and having to burn it off. So if your trainer has you lifting heavy one month and high rep the next, don't worry too much. There is probably a method to his madness. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. 19. I really appreciate the encouragement. It is one of the reasons I joined the board. The funny thing for me is that in class, at work and around town, I can talk to almost any stranger. There is something intimidating to me about the guys at the gym. I have always thought of myself as shy, and in many ways I am. I am actually going tl school to be a teacher and am hoping that will help force me to make some changes. I yjibk its cool that you meet some interesting people at the gym. My current gym is small, not many people. The previous large chain gym was full of guys that were seriously jacked. Hard for me to feel good about my gains when the guy next to me could curl half my body weight. I had to learn, do what I can do, not what they can do. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  20. Part of my trouble is that I am really shy about things like that. I cannot start a conversation with strangers. That is why I turn to online sources to help me(like this forum). It allows me to learn things that I may never have learned otherwise. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  21. The guys that run my gym are cool. They always help when asked. I have also used YouTube as well as the exrx.net website. Both are great. I still feel a bit self-conscious though. Getting better slowly. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  22. That helps. I thought was the only one. Thanks. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  23. This thread looks like a good place to post my ups and downs. First, worked to failure and beyond today. I love the twitching after a good workout. Awesome feeling. My lifting is getting closer to what it was when I stopped. That makes me feel great. Now, does anyone else have this problem? I am a bit self-conscious in the gym about trying new exercises. How does a person get past that feeling of being stared at like you don't know what you are doing? It is really making me feel like not wanting to try new stuff. Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  24. Nothing? Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow.
  25. In a couple of weeks when I get a school break for christmas I plan on lifting heavy for a the entire time. I am trying to figure out what movements I can do that will minimize my time in the gym. Possibly considering bench, squat, military press, pull ups, etc. I really want to do some very basic movements that will focus on a majority of muscle groups. My plan is to bulk a little while I have the extra time. Plus, part of my desire is to add some mass(even if only a little) to the areas that are, imo, lacking.
