I've thrown myself around on 20 inch bmx bikes for ages. But, im looking at getting a mountain bike now. Im not too familiar with them though. Im lookin for something that can handle multiple terrains fairly well. I want to be able to ride into the city, but also hit a few trails if I feel like it. The two bikes i've been interested in are both specialized. The rockhopper comp and the stumpjumper.

HI, I was just wondering if this is normal or unusual... 206 heart beat / minute. I'm 27 years old. According to 220 - age it shouldn't be more than 193. The 206 was made yesterday, running for a total of 26 minutes, climbing a 15% degree hill at the end, carrying 1 lb at each ankle, and a 5 lb dumbell in each hand, average heart beat 189, max heart beat 206. Noticed that only after I got home. I thought maybe it was a failure of my cardio belt and watch, for sometimes it happens. So I had to make sure. Today I made the samething in the same conditions, except I was feeling lazy, and this time I was watching my watch while running, to make sure. 27 minutes, 186 …

So I'm reading the triathletes training bible (thanks for the suggestions tasha!) and trying to plotting out my training/race schedule for the next yearish and here's what I got right now. A races are top priority are training is based around peaking for them, B have some rest before, and C are just for training through and probably won't end up doing all of them (either for money/time/otherwise reasons) I'll be in india from 5/6- 5/21 so probably won't be able to bike/swim at all, might be able to do some running though but I'll have to look into it (might be able to bring a jump rope and do some bodyweight/crunches?) I guess I'm still sorta struggling as far as…

Has anyone heard of Tara Scott (aka Coach Tara)? She has a number of very impressive videos on YouTube and here is her blog (http://fitfromwithin.blogspot.com/). At the end of the videos it says she is a "complete vegetarian (vegan)." I would be impressed regardless of her diet or age, but the fact that she is a vegan and over 40 makes it even more impressive.

since we all love youtube around here, i figured we could post our favorite highlight reels of our favorite fighters. i'll start things off with these highlights of "The Neo-Samurai" Genki Sudo. http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/k1/live/200405/22/photo/a05/pict/pict14.jpg here is Highlight reel no. 1. a quick look at his very unorthodox fighting style and the flashiest entrances you'll have ever see in MMA. Highlight reel no.2 is more detailed. it has alot more of his crazy entrances complete with back up dancers, and includes his knockout of Royler Gracie (pictured above) and his submission of 350 pound Butterbean. finally, here is a clip of him at Chri…

I hope there isn't a thread about this already... I'm thinking about picking up a martial art. Something useful to learn how to defend yourself. Krav maga seems interesting to me, does anyone here have experience with this? Or would you recommend me something else? Just asking...

So, I just started Tang Soo Do about 6 weeks ago and I'm phasing out of bodybuilding. I have absolutely NO time to get to the gym since I'm back in school (PhD work....brutal man!). I really want to focus on weight training that is going to build my stamina and strength for Tang Soo Do. I don't know if anyone has regimens or tips. Anything would be a great help! I know leg lifts and floor work are great just to strengthen your hips for kicks, but that's about as far as I'm getting. I watch "Human Weapon" all the time, so some of that conditioning is awesome, and I would love to get some kind of a regimen together. Unfortunately the clips they show are just that...…

I am kitty sitting for my friends who have cable television. I dont have a TV at all so its weird just flipping through channels and watching society unfold around us. Anyways. They had a womens college volleyball game on, and as a male, I was of course drawn to it. I used to play in high school on a boys volleyball team. We took state champions and I was named top player in our state. So it was nice watching this. Then I started looking at their body structure and their legs are huge! I love it! I guess that why I like watching girls soccer also. Big damn strong legs. It got me wanting to play some beach volleyball, to bad we are covered in almost 5 inches of…

Usually the competitive athletic professional part of the activity is overshadowed by the public negative militaristic outlook on just a small segment of the game. I'll be competing March 30th in a 5 man competition taking in Huntington Beach, CA. Check out: http://www.nppl.tv/site/ My question is are there any other vegan paintballers out there?

Whenever I see people riding bicycles, it looks like their lower backs are rounded and their kind of in a hunched over position. So, I'm wondering if any of the cyclists on this forum have ever experienced any lower back pain or feel that cycling isn't good for the lower back. I have a friend who used to go on long (all-day) biking excursions and his lower back is really screwy now, but that could be from other things as well. I'm curious because I'd really like to incorporate cycling into my training, but I'm paranoid about ruining my back. Mike

I am very interested to see the result of the lesnar and mir fight. I like what mir is saying about this being about his last chance to stay in the UFC. I like that he is saying he has his act together. I was never a real fan of mir, i thought that he was an unfocused lazy fighter with great ability that you never knew which fighter was going to show up each night., but I have a good feeling about his attitude now. I like him as the color guy on WEC also. Also I am not sure how long lesnar is gong to be around, he ididnt have such a great post fight internview after he destroyed the asian guy. He seemed very subdued and focused alot on how painful the training…

So when i used to box back in the day, we always used leather jump ropes and coated them in the center with vasoline so that they skipped fluid and had great motion. Now that i'm vegan both inside and out, i am wondering if anyone knows of a good jump rope to recommend that is comparable to the old school hard core boxing gym leather style jump ropes used. I really want to start skipping again and those rinky y plastic ones don't do it for me. Thanks.........

I did my first multi-sport race as a vegan yesterday. Small local duathlon, maybe a hundred people raced. Im not supposed to run for seven days because I had some veins removed from my legs but I raced anyway. 3rd overall.

By Alan Mozes HealthDay Reporter Wed Jan 23, 11:47 PM ET WEDNESDAY, Jan. 23 (HealthDay News) -- Even a moderate amount of exercise can dramatically prolong a man's life, new research on middle-aged and elderly American veterans reveals. The government-sponsored analysis -- the largest such study ever -- found that a regimen of brisk walking 30 minutes a day at least four to six days a week was enough to halve the risk of premature death from all causes. "As you increase your ability to exercise -- increase your fitness -- you are decreasing in a step-wise fashion the risk of death," said study author Peter Kokkinos, director of the exercise testing and research la…

Some big games recently. The Packers have been one of my favorite teams for years. Brett Favre is one of my favorite athletes in the history of all sports athletes. Patriots are simply amazing too. Any thoughts this year?

Does anyone know a good set of affordable oars for using on an inflatable raft? The oars that came with mine were junk and didn't last long. I'm looking for something of a little better quality, that will fit into the raft's oar locks. Any help is appreciated.
