  1. HDL and LDL help transport cholesterol and triglycerides in the body. • HDLs help remove cholesterol from the blood to take it back to the liver to be reused. Besides that it seems not to really do much in order to prevent heart disease. Just means LDL seems to be more stagnant. C-reactive protein (CRP) at high levels seems to be another marker for heart disease. Now is it seem that inflammation is one of the direct causes of heart disease. There is a cause that creates inflammation. Sugar being one of them, high insulin levels in the blood and so on. Cholesterol or high cholesterol get a bad rep when it tries to help repair the inflammation. For the first time, we have hard clinical evidence that lowering inflammation lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke and cardiovascular disease," said Paul M. Ridker, a cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. As well as infection being a possible risk factor — possibly one caused by a bacteria or a virus — might contribute to or even cause atherosclerosis. The infectious bacteria, Chlamydia pneumoniae (klah-MID'e-ah nu-MO'ne-i), has been shown to have a significant association to atherosclerotic plaque. For years, doctors have thought coronary artery disease occurs primarily when high cholesterol causes fatty buildups called plaques inside the arteries that supply blood to the heart, like clogging a drain. The theory holds that arteries slowly narrow and eventually get blocked, often by a blood clot, causing a heart attack. But in recent years evidence has accumulated that inflammation, a usually beneficial response by the immune system for fighting off infections and healing injuries, also plays a key role. Too much inflammation, perhaps from being overweight, having high cholesterol, high insulin levels or suffering from a chronic low-level infection, appears to damage the lining of artery walls and contribute to the formation and rupture of plaques. Refined sugar and other foods with high glycemic values jack up insulin levels and put the immune system on high alert. (The glycemic index measures the immediate impact of a food on blood sugar levels; surges of blood sugar trigger the release of insulin.) Short-lived hormones inside our cells called eicosanoids act as pro- or anti-inflammatory compounds depending on their type. Eicosanoids become imbalanced — that is, skewed toward pro-inflammatory — when insulin levels are high. As if this weren’t enough, high insulin levels activate enzymes that raise levels of arachidonic acid in our blood. It also seems that to many omega 6 oils are inflammatory. And oxidized cooking oil. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn quotes that oils are a main concern when it comes to heart disease. 2. I don't see everyone going vegan. I understand that. What I am saying is that I think that this pat on the back that people give a lot seems to me counter active. People need to see that this is a serious issue. Not in a way that you are confrontational. I say no to aggression. My angle is showing people evidence and also make them think about situations that they never thought about before. Like if people are so into dairy why do they not have breast milk icecream or cat milk ice cream .... seems nasty right? Yet people think cows were put on this planet so that their milk could symbiotically work in building strong bones and with out it we would die. For me there are vegans and then there is everyone else. I can't tell you the times I heard people say that they are vegetarian but they still eat fish. Last time I remembered fish, eggs or milk were not vegetables. These labels are all over the place and confusing people and not taking the matter seriously. This is really no difference with racism or feminism. People in many countries accept these as normal. Vegetarian to me is like saying yeah ok you can be racist agains this tone of skin to this one but this other skin tone well I am gonna still be racist against that. Your either racist or your not. Your either for the animals or your not. It must go beyond you. The world does not revolve around one person although some would like to think this. I understand that everyone has some times needs some time to register all this and I get it. I do respect people making a valiant effort to change. Those who are aware of the abuse and poor treatment of animals and who make a minimum effort to change, make me feel that they are the ones who don't take matters seriously. If your a vegetarian for 11 years then what I have to say to that is you probably eat better cause you don't eat meat but come on 11 years and you could not close the deal...that seems selfish to me and I don't take them seriously. SOLUTIONS TO DEAL WITH TOUGH FAMILIES - Eat before you go to a social gathering. - Bring your own food to the gathering and share it with non vegans. - Eat after the gathering. - Offer to help prepare the food by adding your own vegan recipes. - Explain what vegan is well and offer a list of ingredients that you can not eat. - Eat the salad for the time being until you get to the next meal. Plus you do more by going to these events that isolating yourself. In the past year I was offended when I went to these gatherings. Now somehow I see that families feel compelled to ask a lot of questions and talk about veganism. It really is quite powerful. Good seed planting.
  3. High Deinsity lipoprotein. A lipoprotein is a biochemical assembly that contains both proteins and lipids (fats cells). The lipids or their derivatives may be covalently or non-covalently bound to the proteins. Many enzymes, transporters, structural proteins, antigens, adhesins and toxins are lipoproteins. Examples include the high density (HDL) and low density (LDL) lipoproteins which enable fats to be carried in the blood stream, the transmembrane proteins of the mitochondrion and the chloroplast, and bacterial lipoproteins I don't know that much about cholesterol but I will research as much as I can. I will see what the truth is.
  4. THE OFFICE!!! that was funny yeah I had seen that a few months back. As a joke we would yell out "Parkour ! " everytime we had a obstacle to get over... All thanks to the influence of THE OFFICE...
  5. Well no one doubts that some still are attached to their old ways. One of my parkour instructors asked why do people eat something like tofurky. Why not eat turkey if you want something that is similar. I explained that many people don't go vegan because they don't like meat but it is all about the animals. Many still like the taste of meat and meat dishes but because it is the result of killing animals they are not so for it. See again I came from a nutritional vegan to become a ethical vegan pretty much at the same time. I mean to say that health was my main concern. I never had animals to care about or have any relationship with. So that was not on my mind. Earthlings put things in perspective. Hearing the horror of the animals before they are killed or while they are being cut up alive with are the screaching and moaning of agonizing pain .... pretty much does it for me. Never care not do I ever care about meat or dairy. I don't even miss it! Like I said before I never ate veggies before going vegan besides iceberg lettuce. Now I love them. If you think for a second animals don't know what the F*** is going on the watch this... video. No slaughter images in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHTNq33cXBQ and then tell me that animals are not aware...
  6. abortion not afraid to get into the subject but here is another question to put out there... Would you allow a tiny cow fetus to be born if you knew it was going straight to a slaughter plant to become hamburger meat? whmmm tough questions...
  7. Direct response to Marcina: I am sorry you struggle with your family and food. It is awkward I understand. But awkward is not hard. The actual physical aspects of prepping, finding vegan food is not hard it is only when we try to be picky with how we have to have our meal or how we have to be accepted is it hard. Bring your own food. It is ok to be different. I think our society is so standardized, that anyone outside the box is shunned. That from my opinion is ridiculous. Why do we care so much about image and what others think. Why are we so set on trends and keeping up with what is the norm? Why are flowers for girls, why is crying for children and women? Why do we say men should have muscle and women should not. Why do we give such boundaries to ourselves? Why are we so structured to fall under the same lifestyle of college, career, marriage, kids and death. This is one way of living a life. You are free to be who you want to be. To have the ideas that you want. That is why I see so many depressed people in this world because it seems that everyone is trying to fit in the same box. Veganism allows one to see outside the box and live a life how he or she wants to live and on top of that not harming others, Humans and beings. I know it seems ironic because I think everyone should be vegan. That is a impossibility. But trying to persuade a large number of people to follow a respectful path in every day life is a honorable way to live your life. But basically if you can do what you want to do as long is it does not cause harm or offend another, or harm our environment; then I think one should be free to be.
  8. Now I think first off that animal organizations are out there to promote veganism. Boy was I wrong. I see more and more celebrities out there who sponsor one form of cruelty and yet they are not a chance vegan or confuse the fact that leather is not bad. Really... if your gonna speak out first off I think you need to understand that you better not be a hippocrate. Eating meat is no different than fur or dairy consumption. The suffering and mistreatment is still their. It seems like the non profit pick and choose what they like and what they think they can follow. Now common! for real is that a joke. It is like picking one type of style and saying this one suites me. My way is vegan or bust. Not half way or oh it is too hard. I went from a standard American fast food diet with no veggies and not only that I hated veggies and now I am vegan eating a large amount of veggies. I don't buy or wear animals to wear and so on. I think people are out there sending the wrong message and veganism is the only way. I make exceptions for people working hard to be vegan and transitioning but everyone esle just plain lazy and selfish. Just My rant... If your goal is not true veganism I am not interested!
  9. I just watched a documentary on yoga and think that westernized yoga is only a physical form of it. The mental aspect which for many in the East is the true yoga form is about enlightment or awareness. It made me think of veganism. I look at the world in a whole different view now because of veganism. Maybe it is more powerful than I thought. I see every creature as it is, I see people for who they really are and I see society as a system to conform people and to remove people from being different. The human world want all of us to follow the same path in life. Grow up find make a good living, find a life partner get married and have kids. I think that has all changed with me after being vegan. I see things more for what they are and not what we are told to think of it. Sound a big deep but I like philosophy and think that veganism has just opened my eyes to the world where before I think I was just a lemming following the same path as everyone else.
  10. I no longer lift weights. I don't have time really. Just Parkour / FreeRunning practice and parkour class at this other gym called PRIMAL FITNESS or AMERICAN PARKOUR GYM. I basically do sprints and bodyweight workouts with small amount of aerobic exercise and avoiding white flower and added sugar and highly processed stuff. I do eat pasta once or maybe twice a week but 100 whole grain. I break once a week and not much at all cause it is at a dance bar and people usually spill drinks and crowd the floor. I will do Parkour 3 times a week for six weeks now and two days extra to practice outside. I don't eat potatos or drink coffee (acrylomide) I stopped toasting my bread for long time but now put it in the toaster and leave it a few minutes and take it out. I don't really have any really cooked veggies. I do put ezekiel bagels in the oven. Gave up oil! and take D2, Omega3 as Salba (chia seeds) and Nutritional yeast (B12) with a occasional b12 vitamin supplement. Oh and Vega smoothie infusion ( whole food powder). Cheats __________________ Veganais twice a week. 11. I do agree some people just like to make people know they are wrong or like to correct people. I just post and if people like than great if not than correct me. I don't mind!
  12. Just for information reasons ... and WARNING don not take any FAT SOLUBLE VITAMINS AS A ISOLATED SUPPLEMENT. THIS MEANS EVEN FOODS THAT ARE ENRICHED WITH THESE VITAMINS OR FORTIFIED. SPECIALLY VITAMIN A and E <----- THESE INCREASE CANCER GROWTH!!! They are fine if they are naturally in a food product but when you isolate them they do the body harm. Vitamin D2 is OK and important to take. IF YOU NEED EVIDENCE I WOULD BE GLAD TO PROVIDE THE INFORMATION
  13. Look I want to make it clear for everyone. My writing is not the best specially cause I always had different challenges with writing. I had learning disabilities and this partially to me moving around so much changing schools in 3 different laguages at a young age. I struggled with writing my whole life. I had to have tutors in school always even learning specialist to help me get through the work. My older sister had the same issues because we were in the same situation. So I will write the best I can. My main conflict with writing and most of my teachers have told me through out school was that I had good ideas but I never was really able to put them down well on paper. I guess that happens sometimes even when I speak. It may seem like I go around in circles before saying what I mean to say. So my apologies for not getting the point across. I think now the point is understood. - Wish everyone well! PS: I appreciate everyone here!
  14. Johanx I expected you to post... for some reason. (friendly) you make me laugh . I meant 8 essential meaning we don't produce those. Which me must get from food. I am not a expert writer. My post was to say that protein is just a means in which we get our amino acids. And that we can get it from eating a variety of whole foods. We don't have to eat beans and tofu to get them. Thats all. Hows it all goin over there in Europe!
  15. THIS IS THE SIMPLE WAY TO LOOK IT THAT eat PROTEIN > breakdown AMINO ACIDS > then AMINO ACIDS build back -----> Build human PROTEIN THE PANCREAS SECRETES PEPSIN to break down protein bonds and later and enzyme called trypsin. So at the end your body will not use protein as is. It requires energy and enzymes to breakdown those strong protein bonds. So try if your worried about your protein think to just look at food and not how many milligrams of protein your missing. Eat right workout right and maybe these myths of protein only will fade. Around 49% of the caloric value of spinach comes from the plant proteins. Not all amino acids are present but eat a variety of foods you will get all your aminos!!!!! BASICALLY ONE DOES NOT NEED TO CONSUME MEAT, OR BEANS OR TOFU EVERY DAY TO GET YOUR DESIRED AMINO ACIDS.
  16. Protein ... whmm where does it come from? How do I replace the meat? Seems like a variety of foods is not good enough. I think we keep thinking that one food as protein is the only way to get all essential amino acids. Check your orange juice box. You will see even OJ has protein. Eat a variety of foods even if you don't have beens or nuts you can still get your amino acids. Is it easier to get it through high protein sources... ummm not really. Some proteins take a lot of energy to breakdown so the foods with bio available amino acids are the best sources. So... what you need is AMINO ACIDS ... we require 8 essential amino acids which comes eating a variety of foods. Amino acids are the structural units that make up proteins. They join together to form short polymer chains called peptides or longer chains called either polypeptides or proteins. Every cell in the body is comprised of proteins. Amino acids are the chemical substances that make up protein. Our bodies use 22 amino acids to make the 50,000 different proteins we must have to be healthy. Humans can produce 10 of the 20 amino acids. The others must be supplied in the food. Failure to obtain enough of even 1 of the 10 essential amino acids, those that we cannot make, results in degradation of the body's proteins—muscle and so forth—to obtain the one amino acid that is needed. Unlike fat and starch, the human body does not store excess amino acids for later use—the amino acids must be in the food every day. The 10 amino acids that we can produce are alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glycine, proline, serine and tyrosine.
  17. Great back and arms... keep it coming!!! I like to see peeps getting results.
  18. I don't show legs because it is not a big part of my routine. And it is kinda hard to get a decent shot of on my own of my legs in a bathroom mirror. I will see if I can shoot them at some point near future. I mainly use legs with footwork in breaking and parkour which is jumping a lot and precision landings.
  19. Thnks everyone.... Chest still is for me the hardest to grow. I will have to train harder there.
  20. I just found out in plant foods KIWI fruit is high up there with other sources of OMEGA 3s kiwifruit seeds contain a high content of essential fatty acids--more than 65% omega 3
  21. OCTOBER PROGRESS... I stopped lifting weights. Spent most of the time climbing parkour and just got workout rings been on them for 1 week. Doing body-weight only.
  22. Working on RINGS NOW no big weights at all.... my cam has gone to the dark side... or it just plain broke on its own. So we wll see about saving cash and getting another one. I will update shortly.
  23. yeah rent here is usually 1200 average 1 bedroom apartment 800 or so square feet. I found a studio 680 for 897. I got lucky should I say. DC is really freakn expensive. I pay all this myself. Many are low income couples who either pay for the rent split it in half or go through low income housing benefits. That is what tends to happen on a average salary you end up living with couples who make each less than you but combined make as much as you. I could not afford anything higher.
