  1. Hmmm I guess my concern is more like I'm going to be cooking a lot of not necessary very healthy food for a few days in a row. Sorry I should have specified that.
  2. Heh, no but I still have dreams sometimes of smoking cigarettes, after years of not smoking. I also have dreams about that one hot guy... oh nevermind.
  3. If you're eating a training diet, what do you do around holidays? I'm going to be doing a lot of cooking this week, and it's going to be hard not to nibble. I love cooking for other people, I'm a great cook (if I do say so myself, which is why so many people want me to make stuff) and I kind of can't get out of it. I want to stick to my meal plan as much as possible. Does anyone have any strategies for dealing with this?
  4. cardio: 30 mins elliptical 25 mins running, 5 mins walk resistance: deltoids and upper back food: 2 tsp miso the same smoothie as yesterday but with a tomato in it which made it ing coffee, soy WORKOUT a bowl of chard and 2 veg burgers around 3 cups of popcorn
  5. This is nice, thx for posting it. There's been awareness and discussion of racism and ethnocentrism of vegetarian, vegan, and animal rights movements for many many years. The problem is, it doesn't get heard, or it gets ignored or minimized.... repeatedly. PETA is the worst, but not alone. One example is Sea Shepherds in the action against the Makah. some history: http://mailman2.u.washington.edu/pipermail/nat_issues/1999-July/003045.html http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg03482.html
  6. Thank you Hayley! You were right. I hit 25 minutes today. I won't run for 25 tomorrow unless I'm really feeling it. At about 22 minutes my leg did start to get sore. 7. When I got to the gym, my knee was tweaking, probably from playing basketball this morning. I was going to just stay on the elliptical, but I tried the treadmill just cause I could. The first 6 mins I was planning to stop at 10, to protect my knee injury, but after about 9 mins, I felt fine. So I did the full 20! I wonder If I will be able to go to 25 by the end of tg break. Food: 2 tsp miso coffee, soy jicama celery cucumber zucchini tomato and a veg sausage coffee, soy WORKOUT (early) 1/2 a vega bar spinach and a veg burger 1 tsp ground flax
  8. No workout, only many many many hours of work. Food: 2 tsp miso coffee, soy 4 celery sticks zucchini, tomato, veg sausage a cucumber a green pepper and a tomato with 2 tsp ground flax coffee, soy a bowl of spinach and a veg burger 4 rice cakes i'm still really wanting something to eat. maybe some more flax? wait, no I'm not actually hungry...
  9. Wow, that bicep photo is great, nice work. I think you should do what works for you in this blog. I know what you mean about being self conscious in it, I am in mine sometimes too. But we should do whatever is going to help our progress. That's why we're here, right? It looks like you're doing great, congratulations on your progress!
  10. Wow, way to go. You've made some serious progress... this blog is awesome. Keep up the good work! I'm gonna follow this for inspiration, if you don't mind.
  11. 30 mins fast elliptical, 20 mins run, 5 mins fast walk. Running was ok I guess, my legs were ok with it, my lungs were not happy though. Lifting was hard at first but I think once the blood went to my arms, it went a little more smoothly. Food: 2 tsp miso coffee, soy 1 cup jicama 4 sticks celery herbal chai summer squash, a tomato, and a veg sausage with lettuce and tomato a cucumber coffee, soy WORKOUT a bowl of broccoli and 2 veg burgers 1 tsp ground flax 3 rice cakes
  12. Bike commute day. I haven't felt this strong on my bike for ages. Food: 2 tsp miso coffee, soy 1 cup jicama some cherry tomatoes some cute little baby peppers zucchini, tomato, and a veg sausage a plate of sliced pepper, tomato, carrot, and pickles a rice cake later - a bowl of spinach, a veg burger, and a tsp of flax
  13. Hayley, what would make you faster? Do you think weight training any muscle groups in your legs, working on core stability, or changing your lean muscle ratio would make a difference? Is "faster" what you mean when you say "better" or is it something else?
  14. Happy birthday, Amy, and many more!
  15. *edit: sorry, I didn't see the cross post with VeganDevil, who said the same thing i said, except better. * But not all hetero couples who set out to have children can get pregnant. Not all hetero couples who do procreate end up being fit to keep the kids. Sometimes fit hetero parents die and create orphan kids. Sometimes people in straight relationships have children, break up, and end up in gay or lesbian relationships. Sometimes gay and lesbian parents adopt. Sometimes single parents decide to adopt or birth their own kids. Sometimes gay and lesbian parents decide to do what some straight couples do, and have their kids with the assistance of reproductive technology such as in vitro fertilization, etc. Not to mention the fact that many straight couples marry with no intention of ever having kids. Conan, your plan wouldnt work. Right now, straight married couples who plan on never, ever having any kids, by birth or adoption, automatically get rights and privileges that gays and lesbians in long term, committed relationships with kids, (their own or adopted) are unable to access.
  16. I think I'm gonna switch it up here a bit and start posting my entire cardio routine at the gym. Today, 30 mins fast elliptical, 20 mins run, 5 fast walk. It was really hard, probably cuz I only slept 4.5 hours last night, or maybe it was the bourbon I drank? Also, I was on a treadmill right near the heater vent which made it hard to breathe and my body was hating it. BUT I DID IT ANYWAYS. I did it. Food: 2 tsp miso coffee, soy 1 cup jicama 1 cucumber herbal tea 4 celery sticks zucchini, tomato, veg sausage coffee, soy WORKOUT 3 pickles, 2 rice cakes a bowl of chard and artichokes with a veg burger a tsp of flax later if I can get up off this chair
  17. No, Jaleel's post isn't simple minded at all. He's saying that just when share the same race/ethnicity and gender, they don't necessarily share the same outlook. That's actually a statement that it would do a lot of people a lot of good to take to heart. Blaming high black voter turnout on the passage of anti-gay marriage is scapegoating, pure and simple. The loudest political voices in the GLBT movement for a long time have largely been the voices of white people. And it's been documented a gazillion times that the loudest, most commonly heard voices in politics in general are white voices. Now when you combine that with the knowledge that most people act in their own self-interest, and self interest does include shifting the blame from your own self and your own people to others, it makes sense that Black voters would be blamed for pro 8 passing by some, fairly or unfairly. Right on.
  18. Looks like a great plan! Good luck and have fun! How much does your baby nurse right now?
  19. Wow you're really good and you look like you're having so much fun! Your logo is pretty cool too.
  20. I didn't think it was too bad, I thought it needed salt, chile, and lemon, but I think everything needs salt chile and lemon! So much fun at the gym today! It got in the way of me doing abs and a proper stretching tonight though, cuz I was kind of in a rush to be somewhere on time. Finding my old long lost friend D there was a trip and so great! And then shot some hoops with some old students I lovelovelove. That was awesome because I hate going to the court when its filled with guys but I always want to. 30 mins elliptical, 20 mins treadmill run, 5 walk, biceps and triceps only. I guess its ok once in a while, I always do more, I shouldn't feel like I'm slacking and am going to lose progress just because of one off day. Right? Right. I think. Food: a scoop of rainbow with pumpkin pie spice, chile, stevia, 1 tsp flax, celery, and water random celery coffee, soy WORKOUT a tomato a couple carrot and celery sticks a shot of bourbon in some herbal tea with splenda and a cinnamon stick some deep fried tofu buffalo wing things (1/2 an order, prob about 1/4 lb of tofu?) salad of lettuce tomato and about 2tbs sunflower seeds w/ a few dips of ranch on the side most of a piece of chocolate strawberry cake omg vegan heaven on a plate
  21. I didn't grow up here in the land of liquidy grayness, and so when I moved here, SAD got me pretty bad cuz i was so not used to no sunshine. The best way I found to deal with it was to bike commute every day (about 20 minutes one way trip) and ride outside, hike, or dki on the weekends, every day. For me, there was some kind of holistic effect that took care of the lack of light by being outside every day - maybe the continuous low level light? idk. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv6lHwWwO3w
