Fallen_Horse
Hey Gorilla, I just read through this thread for the first time. Have you stayed 100% raw since your last post back in 2007? Gorilla
Hey gorillia, I was just wondering where you buy your fruit from. Do you buy it in supermarkets like sainsburys or do you go to farmers markets, fruit stalls etc? Supermarkets and local grocer's
Gorilla
Hey Gorilla, I just read through this thread for the first time. Have you stayed 100% raw since your last post back in 2007? What happened as far as your health, body composition, exercise habits, etc.? Greg no - i've been watching durianrider's videos and that is a good indication of the lifestyle that I was striving for. This conflicted with the lifestyle that I created through the career decisions I made. as he says, fruit from supermakets is expensive ... Warrior
If you return to a raw fruit diet you could try the diet I use which is what i call 'Conservative Fruitarianism'. Its basically an unstrict version of a fruitarian diet which includes a Multivitamin and mineral, fresh fruit and nuts. heres what My diet looks like: 6 Bananas, 3 apples, 3 oranges, 1 mango, 500g grapes and 90g almonds I spread that between about 3-4 meals. the total calories are 2088. 55.5 grams of fat. 410.5 grams carbs. 57.7 grams fiber. 38.4 grams protein. The carb, protein, fat ratio is 71%/6%/22%. I get the RDA of every Vitamin and mineral except Calcium which is 51% of the RDA. Its far from perfect But the only arguable deficiencies are Calcium and Protein.

DaN
Hey Gorilla, your posts are truly very inspirational to those of us who are inclined to fruit. Its a shame you avoid social do's, I do the same. Its difficult when the menu is so animal based, & even family can be cruel about healthy diet choices. I think people dislike vegans etc because it highlights their unhealthiness. I eat a mainly raw diet, although I eat potatoes, beans products & nuts.I am seriously considering transitioning to fruit based diet, although I admit I am a little frightened by the prospect.Me & my gf recently went to Paris & it was really hard to know what to eat.Vegan options are often not good compared to our lovely English shops. It struck me that when we go away on holiday in future, we will eat mainly fruit as it is found everywhere! People often moan about fruit & vegetables being expensive. That is true.Me & the gf spend alot more on food now.3 bags of fruit & veg from Tesco the other day cost £60! I have decided to seriously start to grow my own food, & loads of it too! I am going to become a farmer who eats everything he grows. It will save me a fortune, & will be organic.Have you ever thought of doing this? Warrior
Fruit and Veg is damn expensive. I spend about £60 a week. Cant put a price on health though I guess.

Oggy
Nice work Gorilla, hope you get things sorted out. Really enjoying reading your positive post from last year. Do you have any before raw and after raw pics from last year? I've written down your diet it looks great, I'm starting it today. Been trying to go raw for 2 months now but it can be a little tough when you live with others that don't understand. Though this threads gave me confidence to put in 100% effort. Thanks. RawVgn
Here in the US, fruit is pretty cheap if you go about it right. I typically buy 200 plus pounds of fruit a week for my family of 4 vegans-I'm the only 100% raw fruitarian (I eat raw greens too.) I pay 15-20 dollars per 40 lbs of bananas, and about $6 per 50 lbs of watermelon. So 200lbs per week is about $60. Then I buy small amounts of apples (15 lbs), oranges (15lbs), avacados (2 lbs), and so on as fill-ins for the inexpensive staples. In my experience, it's cheaper eating fruitarian than regular vegan or omni- you just have to focus on inexpensive staples.
Im Your Man
why do you say : I'm the only 100% raw fruitarian (I eat raw greens too.)
RawVgn
I was trying to explain that my wife and kids are not 100% raw, and therefore don't eat as much fruit as me-but still quite a bit. Or are you referring to the greens I eat? They probably account for less than 2% of my daily calories which means I'm nearly pure fruitarian. I like the bulk of greens, the calcium, and other minerals, and they're fun and easy to grow many varieties.
ISETFIRE
Here in the US, fruit is pretty cheap if you go about it right. I pay 15-20 dollars per 40 lbs of bananas. I agree... I live in Chinatown Vancouver, so what I do is to check the prices of 2-3 stores and then go for the special offers. When the bananas tunr ripe and have brown spots outside, they start putting the price down. Today it was 39Cents/Pound. Moreover, there are fruits (apples, oranges, etc) with a bit of damage (small hole, whatever) and they sell those really, really cheap. So you cut the bad spots off, have 90% good fruit, but pay only 30% of the usual price.

Yes I was reffering to the greens It is true that greens have high nutritional values for certain vitamins and minerals. But after asking you that question, I tough about it... I'm wondering why fruitarianism for humans don't include any greens and is strictly fruits, while fruitarian animals like gorillas are called fruitarians but eat also lots of greens... Or which animal is pure fruitarian ? there's some. I know spinach, broccoli, etc are not fruits and logically should not be part of a fruitarian diet... I like the idea of a diet based mostly on fruits and fruit-vegetables (cucumber, avocado, etc) ... It's just that the definition is sometimes confusing : only fruits like apples etc.. or also greens, seeds and nuts (oleaginous fruits).
GreenMachine
I always thought fruitarianism was the reproductive product of the plant containing the seed of the plant. So I guess thats fruit and nuts and some legumes but not leafy vegetable like spinach and kale.

Gorilla
these videos are great. the cravings one was good!i was interested to see Richard Blackman too, as I started following his journey soon after I joined this forum! http://arawconnection.ning.com/profile/JerichoSunfirehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhgqAFGL3J0 Nice work Gorilla, hope you get things sorted out. Thanks. hi - i've been interested in looking at before/after photos to see if i have changed that much: 9 years ago - April 2000 (I haven't grown in height since then, though my posture improved as I started to build muscle):http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/704902.jpg 5 years ago - March 2004 (before I started weight training):http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/5a.jpg 3½ years ago - November 2005 (one month after I joined this forum, about 12 months after I started lifting weights):http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39166.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39161.jpg 3 years ago - June 2006 (high raw fruit but prior to that high pasta/spinach):http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39167.jpg 2 years ago - Spring 2007 (this was a difficult time as I wanted to be raw but I was still fixated on the images in Flex magazine of Arnold Schwarzenegger etc., I supplemented with creatine for a period prior to this, and even considered the possibility of taking steroids - stupid, I know):http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39221.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39223.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39227.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/39231.jpg Then just after that I graduated, and having spent 4 years studying French and German I went straight into a job as a trainee accountant - I feel this was a stupid decision. In between graduating and starting the job I spent the summer lifting weights and eating 100% raw fruit (summer 2007):http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/17.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/18.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/16-1.jpg By the end of the summer 2008 I was the leanest I've ever been:http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/15.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/484782.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/059-1.jpg Then I started the job - I didn't have the aptitude to fit in with the work/lifestyle and I failed at it.I've now been accepted onto a further study course starting in September and I'm living well within my means, saving money I earn from my temp job, spending less money on food. I've been doing some weight lifting but not as much as 2005-2007, as well as yoga, and some cardio (cycling). This is me now, spring 2009:http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/DSC00410-2.jpghttp://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/GorillaPics/DSC00416.jpg Edited May 25, 2009 by Gorilla
flanders77
Hey Gorilla!Reading this put an even bigger smile on my already happy face and mind. It is good to see that you decide on you own what to do with your life. If you ever fell the need to talk/write to me, feel free to do so. IMO we have some things from each other to learn and maybe I can support you a little bit concerning the struggles you are going through. All the best for you,

flanders77
Although this is something I am really interested in, I have trouble seeing how you can grow with only fruits....and you are not the only one having this trouble. We had discussions about this for a really long time and at the end it comes down to what you believe in and feel right with IMO.
