  1. dude good job you can tell a great deal of difference, makes me want to start swimming.
  2. I have seen some pretty athletic people doing only yoga. Perhaps try switching to a harder form of yoga or combining more than one type so that you get the benefits of each
  3. for some reason this movie is the cure for insomnia for me. I have tried to watch it several times and i pass out within the first five minutes of the movie.
  4. Something else that is related and quite possibly a good sign. The government is revising their WIC program to include more fruits and vegetables instead of meat (due in part to the rising cost, and the scientific evidence that a more plant based diet is beneficial for health.) for the complete story see here: full story
  5. I work right at the edge of Murry near 4500 and 700east. and i live near the edge of sugar house so its not that far off man. Those WODs look brutal. (i can barely do at the best of times one handstand pushup propped against a wall.) I actually chose a bodyweight workout because i am a bit fearful of weights, having never trained with them and wouldn't know where to start nor proper technique. This Saturday unfortunately i have to help a friend move but i am free most weekends. A parking structure seems like a good place to practice. As do playgrounds.
  6. Dude i was totally there. yeah i scarfed down the nachos with the quickness, i didnt notice you, but i suck at meeting new people in crowds. Also you may have heard my laughing obscenely loud.
  7. I would love to train with you. In reality though i am rather weak and think i need about a months worth of bodyweight workout to be able to do these things. Im at the end of week one of my new training and ill start incorporating on my off days the WOD. This is going to be awesome. I have seen some dudes downtown doing parkour so i know there is a scene around. meetups.com has a listing for them as well. not sure if they are active.
  8. i am training for this as well this summer.
  9. congratulations! bikes are awesome. So i started volunteering for the bicycle collective and it was amazingly fun in a sadistic i dont know what the hell im doing kind of way. I have never really worked with my hands before so this was something that was new and exciting for me. We focused on stripping old childrens bikes and repairing them to give to charity. I felt accomplished when i leave. Next week im bringing in my bike to fix on the non volunteer open community shop days.
  10. also don't use lack of calories as an excuse to not working out, especially if you think you may have a bit of fat to loose. Do a bodyweight workout and Taylor its intensity to your nutritional level. There is never an excuse to not work out, just plan well and your cool. Good luck man. Also private message me if you want to talk i was in a similar situation as you and i can show you before and after photos and talk about what i did and am doing to help me. P.s. i live off of a 30 dollar a week food budget and do alright, so if you need help as to how to budget i would be happy to help you as well.
  11. thanks for organizing this Robert. I was happy to see the transformations on the front page. I think i have a new goal. to train for the second competition you host. Thanks for the inspiration.
  12. It is something that i am interested in. Also i only volunteer for 2-4 hours a week so no big deal. Its time i lived my morals instead of talked about them.
  13. I actually am. I am volunteering at the SLC bike collective and they are teaching me how to be a bike engineer so i can work hours helping kids and adults fix there bike for a bike in return. I gain a valuable skill and a bike i think thats awesome.
  14. I can agree with you but i am also frugal and believe in the gift economy, so when my friends want to throw there expensive cameras away for new ones i swoop in, and they in return get my unbridled optimism about life. a fair trade if i do say so myself i didn't get a chance to take a picture of the bike but i made a little drawing lol. ill post it later.
  15. So am I. lol. but i was the one stupid enough to break it and it was at most a 2 megapixel camera.
  16. I will try to take one this weekend. I used a universal adapter as a battery source for my digital camera. Lets just say after a loud flash/bang and smoke i no longer have that camera. My friend is visiting this weekend ill ask her to take a picture to post. thanks for the help VP
  17. I have a question for you VP, so i moved into a duplex during the winter, but once the snow melted i noticed a bike outback, I asked the owner if i could have it and they said yes the last tennent left it, is this a good bike, it seems pretty nice truth be told but needs a bit of work. the frame says high tensile steel the brake system says dekra linear pull brakes. the front and back are different colors which i thought weird the back being a 21 speed setting. there are two stickers on it that say verve and vertical. then it says it is a custom shimano integration. I am unsure how to tell who made it, as it seems that its a hodgepodge bike. The frame is unusual the seat and the bar leading to the frame doesnt quite connect with the rest of the frame. there is also a coil along the middle section. Any idea what this kinda bike is worth? I was thinking about repairing it and selling it. but a fixed gear bike and paying some bills with the rest. but if its not worth much ill just fix it up and go from there.
  18. Congratulations on completing your degree, once im out from under some personal debt i will be making a purchase from you. Back to the debate at hand. I can see your point but i must also draw attention to the fact that your point has to deal with you or people like you, while it is easy to group everyone like ourselves it isnt true or self evident. That being said, lets say johnny dont gets a new bicycle from his oil investing father because all the kids in johnny donts class have them and it would be cool, only johnny dont actually like playing video games so the bike goes to waste, the bike eventually gets donated to a good will or other such charity places this is one scenario out of many that i can think of that would produce a bicycle cheaply in the publics hand. I think often times when giving advice the mistake is to use personal experience and equate all experience as that. That is why i am always conspicious in saying that its my opinion or at least trying to point out multiple ways of looking at things. That being said again for you and within your area this is not the norm, hell it may not even happen ever, but for me, and for the various areas i have lived in i have seen this. Also knowing that our friend Dr. Pink has a lot of aspirations that sometimes cost a lot of money to realize, i think that going this route might be his best bet to complete one of the things he is searching for. Again that being said i also mentioned the bike collective, because if there is a fundamental flaw in the frame they can help him work with it. So i was trying to shore up his resources on two fronts.
  19. In my world, the one that is not all or nothing, i find somethings that others deem they do not need at thrift stores including truly expensive bicycles. Tax write offs are you friends. That being said i am sure veganpotter your right on average you will not find a great bike at a thrift store, but does that mean you wont, the answer is slim but possible. So im an optimist. P.s. i was checking out your myspace and your pottery is bad ass, did you go to school for a fine arts degree?
  20. I assume that any girl you would fall for would be smart enough and caring enough to understand your decision i doubt you would marry someone who did not fit withing at least some of your morals. Diamonds are a PR campaign anyways, they are not even the most valuable stone on the market.
  21. not true it depends on where you shop. Dr Pink hit up the thrift stores near wealthy areas that is where i look for better quality items. Also i know salt lake city has a Bike collective that will help you repair bicycles or even let you work off the cost of a bike volunteering teaching others how to fix bikes. Where do you live i can ask them for you if they know of similar programs in your area.
  22. thank you for posting that Troy. I think that one of the best ways to alleviate the stress on this kind of system is public education. But how that should take form or whom to market to is another thing entirely.
