  1. I think a beginner doesnt need that kind of volume. I believe it would be better to focus on a few exercises and learn to do them properly . wetnwildnik, I think xjohanx program looks good if you want to go for a split-aproach.
  2. The guy has been training for three months, there is no chance he needs six different exercises for chest. Or a whole workout for only shoulders. Or four different exercises for triceps.
  3. I also play the bass: http://www.myspace.com/mugwumpssweden
  4. First I'd like to point out that you are not a vegan if you eat milk and whey. About your program, I think your are overdoing things greatly, you don't need that many exercises. I think you would have more success with a simple fullbody program done three times a week. Maybe do something along these lines: Day 1: Squats Bench press or dips Barbell row or dumbell row abs/core Day 2: Deadlift Military press Pull ups abs/core 3-5 sets of each exercise, alternate between the two workouts. Make sure you eat enough.
  5. I would reccomend barbell squats. I think it is a good idea to start learning the technique from day one because it might take some time to get it right. Bodyweight squats I think would be too easy for most people and not that useful for learning proper squatting. They might help with flexibility but that is about it.
  6. In my opinion isolation exercises are boring and take time and effort that could be better spent elsewhere . I sometimes do some for injury prevention though, mainly rotator cuffs and arms stuff.
  7. Hey, that holds for me too, snatches is where it's at.
  8. I really like ubuntu. I used to have gentoo, but these days I'm too lazy to fiddle around much. Ubuntu works excellently and everything i easy !
  9. I would have to disagree . I find it interesting to know that potter has been banned, and why (ok I admit the reasons are still not completely clear). Judging by this thread there are also others who finds it interesting. If this had been handled privately me and others would not have learned about this whole business. Besides, I dont see how telling things like they are could possibly be bad for the forum ?
  10. 4th of june is global solidarity action day for the imprisoned activists. I would ask people to do what they can, sending an email for instance doesnt take much effort. More info and sample letters in german and english can be found here
  11. A deadlift start as you bring the bar off the floor, and is finished when you are standing fully erect with shoulders back. So a competition deadlift doesnt really have a negative phase, you have to lower the bar 'under control', which in practice means only that you need to keep your grip on it as you lower it. Of course in training there is nothing inherintly wrong with doing the negative phase, allthough many people dont since it is not really part of the lift. The guy at the gym didnt know what he was talking about.
  12. First I guess I have to admit that I havent deadlifted in allmost a year. For weightlifting it doesnt give enough benefits compared to cleans and pulls I reckon. Not saying it isnt an excellent exercise, because I think it is, just not for me at the moment . Anyway, when I used to deadlift I would do it on deadlift day of course . I would then combine it with some upper back exercises, rows and chins. I guess you might also call that a back day.
  13. Attach the punch to an email to one of the adress above . Updated info can also be found here, including information about solidarity demos (according to the site demos are at the moment planned at different places in austria, as well as in Bern, Zürich, Leipzig and Helsinki), how to get in contact with the imprisoned activists and other ways to help. Unfortunately site is only available in german it seems. Information on how to send letters to the imprisoned is however available in english .
  14. Not into mountainbiking myself, but Im quite sure wearing skateboard shoes is suboptimal . Sidi has some vegan cycle shoes, not sure which models but Im sure one of the cyclist will come along and tell you about that. As for rockclimbing I have no idea.
  15. I would do front squats and overhead squats.
  16. Awesome, I would reccomend finding an olympic lifting club. In my experience it takes lots of practice and lots of coaching to get decent technique. Or so I would think, not quite there yet .
  17. Good article. I wont celebrate, but since Im not jewish I guess that is hardly surprising.
  18. Off the floor for me when I deadlift. I am a pretty firm believer in the 'treat every rep as a single'-theory for deadlifting, that is putting the weight to rest between reps. So taking the bar from the rack wouldnt make no sense .
  19. I wouldnt agree, you can do all the hypertrophy training you want, you still wont get bigger if you dont eat enough. It is simply physically impossible to grow bigger without adequate calorie intake . I dont see what help endurance training would give, except maybe for burning off excess calories. Lifting heavy in the low reps range though is solid advice . Again, training for endurance is not a good way to increase strength, at least with the common definition of strength (1RM type of strength). Training endurance gives endurance, training strength gives strength. Of course there can be a little carryover between the two but not much.
  20. Solid, looking bigger than I remember !
  21. Tendons attach the muscles to the bone, but can not produce any force on their own. This means that they are allways involved in lifting the weight regardless if it is heavy or not. Using full range of motion is superior in most cases. Then again, many people argue that the goal in lifting should be to move as much weight as possible as often as possible, and in this case training to failure is counter productive.
