  1. Is it just a coincidence that Robert is posing in front of the shelf for relationship self help books? .... don't tase me bro
  2. This is very exciting news. For those who want a URL: http://tinyurl.com/yq5te8
  3. That is a leftover from the early days of the internet when only geeks used email. Those symbols were used to distinguish what you write from what you are replying to or forwarding. As well know this has been supplanted by the MS Outlook stile of "top posting", just typing your reply above the old text. In any event, not to be pedantic. This is easy to fix. Just press your control button and "A" key at the same time to select all of the text you want to forward. The bring up notepad and press control + the "V" key to paste it into notepad. Then go to "Edit -> Replace". Enter one of those ">" in the search field and leave the replace field blank. That will clean the marks out in an instant. You can then copy and paste the cleaned up text into a new email or post.
  4. Oh, my . Do I dare ask what that is? Here American style is to not wear underware In the U.S. we call that "going commando". If I had to guess what DV means by European pants fitting better I would say fitting snugly around the ass. I've gotten the impression from talking to female friends about fashion advice that they get just as disturbed over a pair of well formed glutes as we do, they are just more discreet and tasteful about their enthusiasm. If you look at men and women in the US, women tend to wear tighter pants which flatters their lower body. Even when men's pants aren't baggy/too large like in my situation there tends to be a lot of extra cloth around the derrière and thighs.
  5. On this date last year I weighed 223.8 lbs. Today I weigh 178 lbs. I'm a man with a husky frame who stands at 5 11. I reached a high of 260 lbs back in 2000. A combination of old sports injuries, bad habits, and lack of health insurance put me there. A new career with health benefits, several surgeries, and several years later I was exercising again but my weight seemed stuck in the mid 220s. Having always had a slow burning system and being a bit older I thought I was stuck there for good, which I was for several years. I used to read a personal development forum where I learned about the Hacker's Diet. http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/www/hackdiet.html This day last year was my first full day on it. I haven't changed any of the foods I eat. The feedback mechanisms built in the Hacker's Diet basically showed me what my bad habits were. Things like snacking in front of an open refrigerator and noshing. My meals looked pretty much the same, but with these bad habits cleaned up and eating less my weight came down about a pound a week. I'm going to relax and focus on maintaining my new weight for a while. Then I am going to find a good sports medicine clinic to get physical therapy to get my bad shoulder ( reconstructed after ligament damage, torn rotator cuff ) and bad knee ( torn, missing cartilage ) ready for weight lifting. My female friends have been telling me that I am in serious need of non-baggy pants. After I get a chance to get a new hair cut I will start on rebuilding my warddrobe.
  6. If this was a planned move, why didn't you announce it before you turned things off or put a message on the default page. Good to see you back!
  7. I saw a youtube trailer recently for "Zeitgeist The Movie". I don't know how a feel about the conspiracy theory and I don't think it matters as the bits of reality as reported in mainstream media that are part of overall conspiracy theory are worth fighting on their own merits. ( North American Union, RFID chips, national identity cards ).
  8. I meant 3 times in succession as in with only momentary gaps between trials and without shifting your weight. Standing on the scales the same way, a few seconds between each trial and getting a different weight each time. Junk.
  9. Are they consistent? I can always spend the cash to go take a dunk in a tank for accuracy, but I essentially need consistency to know if I am going in my desired direction. You know how cheap scales will give you 3 different weights if you step on them 3 times in succession? Will body fat scales do the same?
  10. I think a lot of vegan authors/pundits confuse complementing amino acids not being necessary at each meal with complementing amino acids not being necessary at all...as well as getting a variety of mixes ( each with different dominant amounts of particular AAs ) not being optimal. The authors of the American Dietetic Association ( two of them vegan nutritionists ) actually say you should compliment within the span of a day: http://www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/advocacy_933_ENU_HTML.htm Now, that might be adequate, but adequate is not the same as optimal. I've read that our bodies do have a capacity for making up the differences between mismatched AA combinations in food. However, everything has limits and the body has to get raw materials from somewhere to do that. In terms of getting raw materials, I noticed that equal volumes of whole grains have a lot less protein than an equal volume of legumes. I have no idea if legume AAs need to be matched with an exactly equal weight of grain AAs. However, I knew I was getting much more legume than grain protein ( I eat a 50/50 mix at each meal ) so when it came time for me to choose a protein powder I decided to choose a rice based one. I figured that in addition to simply getting more protein I might also get better use of the protein I already eat. I just don't know. It could that, or just more protein at all, or more calories. I'm less likely to believe that 110 extra calories made the difference. I've had several experiences with getting a slightly scratchy throat as a precursor to a cold when I kept a full schedule before. At all different ages, weights, and food intake levels. I've always complimented my meals too since I was 14. Either way, that table spoon of brown rice protein with lunch and dinner is now a permanent addition.
  11. That is interesting as I am probably a lot larger than you are. It is also interesting as the UN has very low protein requirements set for people, as do many vegan health professionals and authors. Vegan health writers can be counted on to scream that the USRDA is padded and the USRDA admits it. Yet, I was meeting the USRDA and not doing the best that I could do and you being a smaller person with a lower requirement would not do well on their recommendation for me.
  12. This is reassuring to me as I plan on doing something similar. I am 2 pounds away from going into maintenance. I lost my weight VERY slowly and exercised all along the way, so I do not have problems at the same level Dr. Pink does, but I do have some flab, and some loose skin. I plan on keeping my calorie level at maintenance levels, reducing my cardio slightly, and upping my weight lifting.
  13. I would be interested to hear your opinion. I thought it was slightly slanted against AR folks...but only slightly. It was more honest than I expected, showing graphic animal abuse clips.......what the game is all about. It could have also given some background on the Center For Consumer Freedom so that people would know how to take what their representative had to say. He was in the movie a lot. Given all of that I thought it touched on all of the big debates within between as well as within AR & AW as well as with the critics. Good intro for people completely uninvolved with that world and a good conversation starter for people in it.
  14. You look fantastic. Unless you are hell bent on competing in bodybuilding you have no worries as far as your appearance goes.
  15. It isn't perfect, but I found the documentary "Your Mommy Kills Animals" to be worth renting through netflix. It brings up many worthy talking points about the AR and AW movements.
  16. Sounds more like a loving kindness meditation. My understanding is that the different types of Buddhism are very different to each other, to the point of almost being distinct religions. Even given that, would say the use of the term "Buddhist Prayer" is a mismatch of words? No gods to pray to, at least in some Buddhist countries. In others the Buddha is a good or no longer exists as an entity who can hear communication, let alone having power, disposition to respond to "prayers" What do you think?
  17. Did your ears get longer and did you grow a snout as well? How about hanging out with talking bears?
  18. I rarely ever get colds. However, around this time of year I will feel myself moving towards the edge of a sore throat from time to time. When that happens I will usually take some Emergen-C powder and get some extra sleep. That will usually take care of it. However, this isn't usually enough if I stay disciplined with my time and do a full schedule. Within 2-3 days my throat will start getting scratchy, sooner if I talk a lot outside. I got about 60 grams of protein a day ( 5 11 guy, 178 lbs ), mostly from legumes. Having become a vegetarian as a teenager after dropping raw foodism and reading DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET I decided to take a table spoon of brown rice protein powder twice a day. I was thinking that the amino acids that grains are strong in would be in low supply in my body. Similar volumes of grains have much less protein then legumes. Most of my meals are based around a 50/50 volume of legumes and whole grains. I wasn't expecting anything back from this experiment. However I got pleasantly surprised. I felt more grounded and I had better endurance. I also noticed that my immune system was stronger. I did not need to slow down if I went outside to distribute vegan lit and talk. If I stay disciplined with my time and do more, I no longer feel a sore throat coming on after 2 -3 days of a more full schedule. The latter issue has been with me off and on for a few years. I don't know what the missing piece was. Possibilities are: 1. The more complete complimentation of amino acids I now get every day 2. Simply the extra 20 - 30 grams of protein of any mix of AAs 3. The extra 100 or so calories I am getting from the rice protein. Whether it is numbers 1, 2, 3 or a combination that is doing the trick I am glad to just have the better results. I'm now getting at least 80 grams of protein a day, with several days a week with my protein levels getting into the upper 90s, low 100s. I felt great before, but now I feel even better. I'm posting this in case anyone sees similar phenomenon in their own lives. As a point of reference the USRDA for protein is 0.36 grams per pound of body weight. Many people scream that it is way too high. However, if I calculate my needs based on their formula with my current body weight ( instead of their lower "ideal body weight" ) I only get 65 grams of protein per day. An amount I was doing good on, but not great. Take it for what it is worth.
  19. How normal is it for women to have have orange, black, and white hairs on their skin?
  20. I saw you sneaking an unmeasured glass of ice water and an olive in last week .
  21. I like her non-egotistical, cheerful, playful avatar too
  22. Several years ago I had problems with insomnia that lasted several months. This book by a Harvard researcher uses non-drug, clinically proven methods for improving sleep. It solved my problems: http://tinyurl.com/227996
