  1. I've had a killer fever for 4 days now, I haven't posted pretty much anything since I've been too weak to even stand. I've had 102.6 F (39.2 C). I'll get back to my log when I feel like I'm not dying. Also, there was some kind of a hair style contest thread somewhere. Please don't close it until I participate!
  2. Length does not mean high quality. There are loads of utter bs in that text. This is true for most amino acids. However, glutamate is just the one that you can find in many foods free. Check here: http://www.msgmyth.com/discus/messages/7/698.html?1152312568 Here's the list, in mg/100 g the first number is bound, the second free: Cow’s milk 819 2 Human milk 229 22 Parmesan cheese 9847 1200 Eggs 1583 23 Chicken 3309 44 Duck 3636 69 Beef 2846 33 Pork 2325 23 Cod 2101 9 Mackerel 2382 36 Salmon 2216 20 Peas 5583 200 Corn 1765 130 Beets 256 30 Carrots 218 33 Onions 208 18 Spinach 289 39 Tomatoes 238 140 Green peppers 120 32 People haven't been eating tomatoes for long? OH COME ON FFS!!! If you eat 200g (7 oz) of tomatoes per day you'll get the amount of free glutamate ppl in China add to their food as MSG. And it's virtually the same thing.
  3. This thing goes horribly wrong at the point I bolded for ya. Don't trust ANYTHING Weston A. Price foundation tells you. It has published so much bullshit it hurts to even think about it. For more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weston_A._Price_Foundation Their viewpoint against soy is ridiculous, unscientific garbage which is based on scaremongering to drive their interests. I seriously think they are the more evil than the tobacco companies.
  4. Thanks sosso, I'll take more photos soon! Fri 23rd January - Bicep curls, dumbbell: both arms 8 + 10 + 10 @ 19 kg (42lbs, isolated, 1 arm at a time) - Hammer curls, dumbbells: 10 + 8 + 10 @ 16kg Mon 26th January ~ 2h bboying Tue 27th January - Deep squat, barbell: 5 @ 30kg, 5 @ 50kg, 5 @ 60kg, 5 @ 90,4kg, 8 @ 80kg (took a bit easier this time) - Bench press, barbell: warm up @ 40kg and 50kg, then 5&f + 5&f @ 88kg (6th was really really close in the 1st set, but not second... I had a spotter today) - Incline bench press, barbell: 8 + 8 @ 72kg (woohoo, next time 74kg / 163lbs)
  5. Natural doesn't mean harmless. There are huge amounts of poisonous plants, natural but deadly. But walnuts are safe even though there is glutamine in them since glutamine is not dangerous. No, it is not likely that it will cause harm to the body if it is isolated. There is a possibility it will cause harm. You can take like 10 x the required amount of vitamin B12 a day and you'll be perfectly fine. I already pasted an article that said: "and it has been shown that of all the glutamate eaten as food only about 4% passes into the body" -> you can eat LOADS and you will only get it very little in your body. It would be fun to know how much MSG there is in crisps or soups since it really isn't that much. You are right, vitamin C may be unhealthy if you take HUGE amounts of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_C#Adverse_effects Here's a direct link to a study in which they gave 6 grams of vitamin C per day to people: http://www.inchem.org/documents/jecfa/jecmono/v05je20.htm Nausea, diarrhea ect... nothing deadly but a lot of adverse effects. 6gr equals about 100 oranges. 15mg per body weight in kg is the recommended maximum level.
  6. THE BEST article about soy! http://www.t-nation.com/article/most_recent/soy_whats_the_big_deal It's just food among others, nothing else. No miracle curing effects. No adverse effects even if you consume quite a lot of it (unless you're allergic).
  7. That is not true. You would be dead if there weren't glutamate in your body. There's loads of glutamate in you! http://www.food-info.net/uk/intol/msg.htm
  8. I became a bit more interested in this after you posted that link. Let's check it out a bit more! Direct link to abstract: http://www.nature.com/oby/journal/v16/n8/abs/oby2008274a.html OK, this is not much. Just 330mg per day! Let's look at the amount of glutamate of food in general: The average consumption was similar as eating 200g (7 oz.) tomatoes. Now the real question is, how do different glutamates affect? If you count the free glutamate in normal food everyone gets more it than the amount people added to the food in the Chinese study. They only checked the amount of MSG added as a powder to the food but did not check the amount of MSG in soy sauce, for example. Let's check what MSG is, btw. Wikipedia helps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_glutamate It is made with fermentation process. I think it would be unfair to say it's unnatural or synthetic. And if you are not seriously fat I wouldn't worry about the use of MSG.
  9. This one has very little science and loads of scaremongering. Don't buy that nonsense. Weston A. Price is pure bullshit, heavily anti-vegan, anti-vegetarian meat lobby. Don't buy anything they say because it's very likely not true. This one is good. Check the researches yourself and check if there is a single one which tells that MSG is dangerous to HUMANS at the doses it is possible to get from food (they pump those rats with toxic amounts of all kinds of stuff and then claim it's dangerous even though it would be impossible for anyone to get that much from food even if they try). You can find similar lists from soy and that doesn't make soy dangerous. I HATE it when people are being scared for no reason. If MSG was dangerous it would be widely known. What makes it even worse they sell stuff without ingredients they claim to be dangerous. They make MONEY out of scaring people for no reason! Screw those guys.
  10. Bloody hell! I haven't checked this topic for a while and you've made incredible process in so little time! Massive gains!
  11. That is just rhetoric. You are writing that using a COMPUTER. Is that "natural" or "normal"? You said that there are many studies that say that eating MSG is dangerous but you can't show any and you start ranting about how you don't trust scientific studies and how you don't have access to them. You can read all the abstracts of medical scientific studies for free here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ Is bodybuilding natural? No. If something is not natural it doesn't mean it is unhealthy. I'm talking about intervention studies. Statistical studies show no potential danger, nor does clinical studies. There's loads of MSG in tomato for example and eating tomatoes doesn't make you sick.
  12. Well, show me those scientific studies then. And I don't mean raw food magazine articles, I mean peer-reviewed articles of intervention studies. If you just look at the case studies you'll never eat soy again since one guy (out of 6,8 billion people here on earth) got boobs by eating soy. That still doesn't mean that most people are healthy eating soy. Intervention studies do not show adverse effects correlated with the usage of MSG. And it's only CORRELATION with higher BMI, it does not mean CAUSALITY. It's weak and only found in one study so I wouldn't draw any conclusions with that.
  13. Here is all you need to know about MSG: http://www.food-info.net/uk/intol/msg.htm - Zero scientific studies have found it causing negative side effects - Loads of stuff contain MSG naturally - There's loads of it in our body - It makes stuff taste better with less natrium than with normal salt Wikipedia tells that: "The INTERMAP Cooperative Research Group conducted a study of 752 healthy Chinese (48.7% women), aged 40-59 years, randomly sampled from three rural villages in north and south China and determined that MSG intake may be positively related to increased BMI (Body Mass Index)." Bring it on, more BMI the better, for me at least!
  14. I think the adjective AWESOME is underestimating. FÜKKEN SUPERB!!! Seriously ripped!!!
  15. xphilx, actually I've studied some german but I still don't get all of that. Hilarious anyway. Damn, you must be quite a farter! IYM, yes, ing. And fun. All people fart, but after certain amount per day it may not be healthy. At least for the people around the farter. Zack, I think I'm pretty much at the same level. Maybe even less! John V, thanks mate! Doing my best! Wed 21st January 1h 45mins bboying Thu 22nd January Bench press 1 rep maxing! - Bench press, barbell: 1 @ 50kg, 1 @ 62kg, 1 @ 66kg, 1 @ 82kg, 1 @ 94kg, 1 @ 100kg (PB), 1 @ 102kg (PB, 225 lbs), 8 @ 82kg I would have been able to do more already today but my right calve hurt a bit. I decided to leave some for reserve. Those lifts were E-A-S-Y!!!
  16. Even if he was on roids, very impressive. A question for you, tuc, and please don't take it as insulting. I am just wondering why you (and other people here) post pictures of builders who are obviously quite jacked on roids. To me, (again, not trying to offend), posting pics of roid users doesn't make sense unless you plan on using roids yourself. Why would you post an 'ideal' picture if you will never have the chance of reaching that ideal? Don't flame me I think Serge Nubret has pretty much ideal physique. Roids or not, he looks awesome. Women often admire women who have eating disorder and who are heavily photoshopped in pics. I want to have a target which will keep me working harder. If my goal is high enough, I'll keep working out like a maniac for years. When I am near my physical limits I'll take a goal I can reach. I'm never taking roids, I just think those guys look awesome. If I said my ideal life would be living as Jesus, that doesn't mean I am religious. I think this thread is just for fun, I don't take pretty much anything in life really serious. Well, veganism, but that's about it.
  17. One more. Serge Nubret... compare to modern day gh-gut monsters!!! http://www.schwarzenegger.it/mro/nubret/sn304.jpg
  18. This guy's upper body: http://www.musclemecca.com/vbphotovote/photos/phpV7bydq.jpg (Lee Priest, this version of the photo is not photoshopped) And this guy's calves: http://tm-mwgl.com/fullsize/t_matm01.jpg (Mike Matarazzo, 22 inch / 56 cm calves) Body proportions in general like this guy, Sergio Oliva: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/239/455514828_f5566e37d9.jpg?v=0
  19. Milk doesn't have omega fatty acids which are essential, so dairy companies can't claim that you need milk to get efa's. OK, you had oats. Let's see what oats have: 18 % of energy comes from fat, 17 % protein and 65 % carbs. Or do you have some special oats we don't have in Europe? Pancakes have fat, that's for sure. I'd say something like 20 % of energy at least even if they're low fat. OK, sorry, I skipped over a few words that said you had been doing a similar program already. Did you have any gains with your previous diet and how long have you been doing that? What were the weights you started with? Anyway, I'm glad your diet is kicking in.
  20. Care to share what you eat in one day? This: "10-20 % Protein, and 80-90 percent Carbohydrates (complex) no kind of sugars or simple carbohydrates.. Fat was keept to a minimum (thus no avocado etc)" ...just seems something a) unbelievable unless you're eating only certain fruits which don't contain fat along with protein powder b) really really unhealthy since you need the essential fatty acids to stay alive Also, the nervous system also affects when you change your workout cycle. If your body isn't accustomed to a certain training habit (for example slow 5/5 reps), then you'll have a lot of gains just because your nervous system adjusts to your new workout cycle. And btw, that 0.5-1 lbs of lean mass per week is the absolute maximum and if you get more, you're genetically really special. Sure you can increase weight without gaining fat but a lot of it is fluids in your muscles, not lean muscle mass. 5 kg of lean muscle mass in one month is simply impossible without steroids, and even with them it would be something really extraordinary.

    Hello! :)

Welcome, Lina! You asked for tips for diet. I think most people disregard nuts for some reason. They're super healthy, filled with protein and good fats and they taste really good! Go for pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds for example. They fit in salads or almost any food. Honey isn't actually the worst thing in this planet, I don't think you are going to hell if you have some honey once in a while. But hey, I don't believe in hell to begin with.
  22. Wow, another Finn... loaded with muscle! Looking great, man! I think I haven't seen you before. Are you logged in Eläinoikeusfoorumi? It's great to see vegans in great shape coming out all the time!
  23. Welcome! I love your avatar! Is it from an Aphex Twin video? I can't really remember where I've seen that. Anyway, have fun here. You've already started posting, which is obviously a good thing!
