  1. I finally tried this dry cheeze sauce mix from VegWeb: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=7126.0 This stuff is great!! The dry mix is easy to make & when you want cheeze sauce you simply scoop dry mix into water or soy milk & heat. For really thick sauce use a 1-to-1 ratio. Add more liquid for a more saucy mix. You can add any seasonings or extras, like a dallop of mustard at cooking time. My husband loves this on baked spuds & I like it over pasta with chopped veggies on top. Next weekend I'm going to make nachos using this. FYI, do not bring to a boil. Boiling breaks down the elasticity of the arrowroot. Also, many HFS have arrowroot in their bulk section much cheaper than the little spice bottle at the regular grocers. It's kind of expensive with the 3 cups of cashews but I got about 10 cups of cheeze sauce over time. I'm making my second batch of dry mix today. I have tried the Road's End cheeze sauce mix & imo, this is better.
  2. I like to put nutritional yeast in my bread, pizza crusts & biscuits. I replace about 1/2 four with the ny. Let us know how your bread turns out!
  3. Welcome Lori! "Peace & Carrots" ...I love that!
  4. I could base an entire Halloween costume on these shoes!!
  5. Ok here's the model I think I'm going to go with. It's under $40, it's electric & uses rock salt & ice to freeze the ice cream. I read lots of reviews & decided the rock salt/ice method is best. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AO4C4G/ref=ord_cart_shr/104-3444144-6171150?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A1L4LS2KNDBWYV&v=glance&n=284507
  6. Here's my loving dog Booyah, who we got from the Humane Society just a few months ago. My sweetie is 6 1/2 years old & has been in & out of the pound. How anyone could drop him off & leave him is beyond me! He's exuberant & energetic, & yes, he gets a nice long walk every day! http://pic4.picturetrail.com/VOL728/2745263/7443831/128021705.jpg JW said: Well said!
  7. They control our media so when we turn to the Internet to dig for the truth they want to control that, too. This administration does not want the American people to discover the truth of what they are doing. on edit: Animation about the topic with link to get more info. http://www.dontregulate.org/
  8. You & VBB got mentioned at a liberal site that I frequent. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1162704#1170228 Once again, vegans trying to dispel the myth that animal products are necessary for good health.
  9. I made a similar comment to my mother once - something like a cow is not any different from a dog or a cat in terms of awareness & suffering. She lauged in my face & said that was the funniest thing she'd ever heard. I reminded her about the baby calves we use to feed when one of them lost it's mother. They became quite attached to us & even when they were older & in with the rest of the herd, they would remember us when we walked by & would come running up to the fence for scratches. She became very uncomfortable & quickly changed the subject. Humans are such speciesists, so certain that we're the pinnacle of creation.
  10. How can they even claim it's done on a sustainable basis??????? Grrrrr.....I hate people some days. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4963526.stm snip... The polar bear and hippopotamus are for the first time listed as species threatened with extinction by the world's biodiversity agency.
  11. The local wildlife sanctuary always has racoons. This time of year, lots of babies. They are inquisitive little guys! And so adorable! Right now, they have lots of babies of all kinds! I love these guys!! Check out the revolving photos on the homepage: http://www.greenwoodwildlife.org/ Kathryn, your story about the problem-solving racoon put a smile on my face.
  12. Every January Denver is host to the National Stock Show. Always went as a kid cuz my step-dad was a cattleman. I hated, hated, hated the rodeo part! As a kid I loved walking around & seeing all the animals, but now that I know what goes on behind the scenes, the whole event is sickening to me. Every year some restaurant buys the grand prize cow & then makes a big ta-do over when they are going to serve it. Grrrrrrrr...
  13. OMG!! I could not walk in a heel that high. I simply could not! How do you two do it?????????? Aaron, yours are more my style!
  14. Thanks Tiffany. I'll look around before I spend $80 on an appliance I will probably only use 4 times a year.
  15. Amazingly cool stuff, although a bit difficult for me to wrap my head around! Light's Most Exotic Trick Yet: So Fast it Goes ... Backwards? snip... In the past few years, scientists have found ways to make light go both faster and slower than its usual speed limit, but now researchers at the University of Rochester have published a paper today in Science on how they've gone one step further: pushing light into reverse. As if to defy common sense, the backward-moving pulse of light travels faster than light. Confused? You're not alone. "I've had some of the world's experts scratching their heads over this one," says Robert Boyd, the M. Parker Givens Professor of Optics at the University of Rochester. "Theory predicted that we could send light backwards, but nobody knew if the theory would hold up or even if it could be observed in laboratory conditions." Boyd recently showed how he can slow down a pulse of light to slower than an airplane, or speed it up faster than its breakneck pace, using exotic techniques and materials. But he's now taken what was once just a mathematical oddity—negative speed—and shown it working in the real world. === Remainder of story here: http://www.physorg.com/news66582110.html
  16. That is the most outrageous shirt I've seen!! I frickin' love it! You must post a photo wearing it. I bet it takes people a couple of seconds to make the connection between the photo & the text. Incredible message. What are your other animal activist shrits?
  17. Welcome, Jen! Losing fat & getting fitter is a great starting goal. Hang onto that pipe dream! You can make it happen!
  18. lol Years ago I tried a soy yoghurt & it was awful! But then, years ago soy milk was pretty bad, too. So just this week I tried the Silk yoghurt. I got the blueberry & the raspberry. They were good. Next time I will try the vanilla & the plain. What was the other brand you tried? Just so I don't get it.
