  1. First please don't put words in my mouth. I NEVER said women don't have a choice. In fact I said I didn't think she was presuured, which would imply I view it as her choice. Then again when you don't have valid points it's much eay to accuse people of things they didn't say - even if they basically said the opposite. When did I say women need our "protection, blessing, knowledge and morale"? Oh wait I didn't! In fact a few years ago I would have been saying the same things as you, but then I got educated by women! Hearing the points of view from a number of women in my life has really opened my eyes on this stuff. The people fighting against sexism are mostly women, I just try to support that struggle. They need our support not our "protection, blessing, knowledge and morale" Sure my description isn't " a given" if it was I wouldn't really have to say it would I? That doesn't mean I'm not right I have no position in academia and my education is in physics so don't pull out that anti-intellectual nonsense because it doesn't even apply here. It's interesting you don't think there are connections between varies forms of oppression and exploitation considering they all have the same root, viewing one group as less then another and thus viewing it as ok to treat them worse, treat them like an object (like thinking it's ok to eat meat or rape women). Also no connection to capitalism? Then why are the groups that fight so hard against AR funded by capitalist? Why do women get paid less? Wait I think I have an idea! It's because sexism and speciesism(why'd you put that in quotes?) are profitable. But there's no connection - none at all. At least when we bury our heads in the sand. Drawing these connections may be "convenient and simple" but that's because they exist. It's not counterproductive to draw these connections - it's counterproductive not to as they have a similar nature and function. Reinforcing the commodity status of one group isn't going to help end the commodity status of another. In the future when you respond don't put words in my mouth or make absurd accusations. But you wouldn't have much to say then would you?
  2. What about the millions of feminists who should be our allies on this issue but who are turned off AR from this shit. Turning one horny dude vegan is not worth losing that. And what xveganjoshx wrote. Or do animals matter more to you then people?
  3. I'll start by saying I have no problems with nudity or sex in anyway(I'm a kinky bastard and there are naked pic of me on the Internet) Nor do I think the woman was pressured(although it's possible.) That said I don't think this video does anything positive. I doubt it'll get anyone to change their dietary habits and I think this sort of activity is counterproductive as it aleinates a lot of people who could be on 'our side' Beyond that I also think it objectives and commodifies women's bodies. Basically this video shows the women's body in exchange for people to watch scenes of animal abuse and her about some thing PETA has done. But if the problem we are dealing with is the fact non-humans animals are commodified how does treating a human the same way help? It doesn't - in fact it does the opposite, it says that commodifying life and bodies is alright. Beyond that we have to look at the wider social context that this actions exist in. It's not happening in a vacuum, we live in society that treats women's bodies as objects. This is why people often see sex as some sort of exchange rather then a loving act(or a bit of fun ) I think that objectification of women's bodies is a key facet of sexism and also a key factor reinforcing sexism. Look at all the ad campaigns and how they present women and how these campaigns effect women(eating disorders, low self confidence, a 'need' to use beauty products to look good and fit in) Also women are presented as mostly passive and for men's benefit. Women aren't passive. Women don't exist for men to fuck. Animals don't exist for people to eat. Let's end the commodification of life. Not reinforce it. In the end that's only counter productive.
  4. I think Gary Francione raises some very good points - especially with respect to the commodification of animals, I think that is really the central issue.
  5. Heavy abs refers to ab work that is using heavy weights. Like this with a lot of weight. I'd do it standing however.
  6. These guys would actually be pretty heavy if they weren't so short. I met an old world class lightweight lifter(Olympic qualifier for the US in 1984) and he was only 5'1 at most...however he'd be really heavy if he were 6'...also none of these guys are even remetely clean Hey, it's been awhile since you posted, but I'd say these folks are a lot 'cleaner' then most of the bodies in the thread. I understand they are short, that's why I'd have to be 100 kilos to reach my ideal.
  7. Not sure about HIIT, but I used to do wind sprints at the end of my back day. For abs do whatever, you can do something other then 5x5 for abs. i like V-ups myself. Your core will get worked from heavy squats and deadlifts as well.
  8. Wide grip is good, about the same as bench is recommanded. I move my body a bit too, that'd be why you feel it in your lower back I'd guess...
  9. I don't eat as much organic as I'd like, but all my fruit is, just becuase it tastes about 80* times better. *Pulled out of my ass
  10. It's a sport - not a social system I'll call it what I want! Now stop oppressing me! Wobbly is a nickname for members of the IWW. No one is quite sure where it comes from but there are a number of (tall) tales explaining it.
  11. I feel them more in my arms too. I think that's normal to some degree. If you feel it a lot in your lower back it's either becuase you have a weak lower back, or are using your lower back to help move the weight. What grip do you use? Does your body move as you do reps?
  12. Like chess is the king of games, curling is the king of sports! CURLING FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Cook the veggies and tofu in oil. Drink 500-1000mL of Fruit Juice. Use a tbsp of peanut on each piece of bread instead of in total. That should do it.
  14. NO! Use the same weight for all 5 reps. Don't use your 5 rep max for it, use a bit less, maybe your 8 rep max. Experiment and find a weight you can do 5sets of 5reps at then add weight each week if you made it last week. It's that SIMPLE. No offense dude, but did you read the link I gave? http://www.veganfitness.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=218
  15. Becoming Vegan is a great book, that has so muh infomation on healthly vegan eating. Also check out the vegan food guide: http://www.nutrispeak.com/veganfoodguide.htm If I were you I'd drop the processed foods and eat lot's of beans, veggies and whole grains! Good luck!
  16. For 5x5 do two warm up sets - at maybe 50% and 70% of what you'll be using for your working sets. Then do 5 sets of 5 reps at a weight where you can just barely make the last rep of the last set. Same weight for all 5 sets. The weight will be a bit less then your 5 rep max. Rest about 2 minutes between sets, or whatever feels right. If you can make the 5x5 add 5 pounds the next week. Repeat. If you're worried about not being able to run or swim, add some cardio to your workout. Remember strength and endurance is different.
  17. I wonder about that museum, the people funding it having very iffy politcs.
  18. I think that's might be an overstatement, maybe an average person can't, but I'd have no doubt naturally big people, like Veganessentials for example, could.
  19. Exercise or eat less. You can't spot reduce fat. For exercise anything that burns calories should do. You just need to burn more calories then you take in to lose the gut. As for the diet drop the soda, and eat more beans and less mock meat stuff, it's more healthly.
  20. Why does he need so much protien? The only reason you would need that much is if your bulking. No 190 pound lifter could bulk off 2500 calories, hell I'm 160 and lose weight if I eat like that. If he isn't bulking half that protien is fine.
  21. Anyone(barring cancer victims and 100 year olds) can put on 5 punds of muscle with the right food and training.
  22. Although I'm against subsidies on an idealogical level, we have to understand that getting rid of them will have a huge negative impact on the large number of americans struggling to feed themselves already. The issues we face are not single issue and trying to confront them one way won't work. The problem is that we have an economic system that is focused on profits and controlled by those with power.
  23. Dogs are fine as vegans. With cats it's questionable, I've heard it works for some, but not all.
  24. So many polls don't really use proper sampling methods though. And what's the point of them?
  25. What's the point of voting in this poll, it does not use proper samapling methods and so it's meaningless...
