  1. Yeah - all that hair got a little out of hand sometimes. He was usually cleaned up pretty well, but he liked to have a good time, and that photo was definitely taken post-good time for Hari. He had a busy afternoon of killing his slipper.
  2. Ha that lawyer bit is funny. I almost missed it. Welcome! I think you've seen enough rheteric for the moment, so I'll leave it at hello and nice to meet you (edited because I remembered how to spell rhetoric and didn't want to look dumb )
  3. I do believe we have a pirate and a ninja....we'll see if the pirate is willing to show up Anyway - welcome Jenn!
  4. My family had a Shih Tzu for 14 years. His name was Hari Chin, and he died of a heart murmur on March 17, 1999. Middle of softball season. He was alive when I left home, died right after, and I didn't even find out until 12 hours later when I got home from my game. My parents didn't call to tell me because they didn't want it to affect my playing, because they knew I'd be devastated. Best dog ever. I've never known a dog that was so perceptive and always knew exactly what I was saying. Still miss him. Dirty from playing outside, and sitting under a plastic deck chair - the static electricity gave him a mohawk http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/veggymeggy/hari007.jpg
  5. So I already stole the thing you said about the 6billion people on earth, but can I also steal this? I love it. So true, and so simple. You are a wealth of wise one-liners.
  6. Liz! You are gorgeous! Wow!
  7. I'll be waiting for their answers, too... my abs don't seem to be good enough to be mentioned together with the ab gods... http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/5852/bauchweb2uo.th.jpg http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7746/alex132hx.th.jpg Goodness gracious Alex, those pics should come with a warning. This girl for one, is speechless. And jealous of K-Oz
  8. I think you need a hug. So ask Robert to give you one for me. To answer the question of the thread, animal and child suffering/abuse. And to those who are appalled by the fact that I have placed both animals and human children in the same boat, all I can say is GET OVER IT!!!!!! . Yeah....Ask Robert, cuz Megan doesn't give hugs.
  9. Just people I've talked to more than others. There are some people that I find intriguing but haven't said all that much yet, and others that I've had long private conversations with and feel like I know pretty well. But, overall, I consider everyone to be my friend here!
  10. Up until I came back to school full time, I had money of my own - at least enough to never worry about paying the bills and stil have some to use for my own choices. Not enough to do ANYTHING, but enough to do some things.....and I worried less. A lot less. Which translated into being happier because I was more able to enjoy things in my life without worry about how to pay for them. So yeah - as a stress reliever, money can equate to happiness!
  11. I agree Crispy. Here in Oregon we have mail in voting. It's not a flawless system, but I think it's superior to electronic voting. For starters, it is pen and paper so there's a way to verify the votes. Also since you can mail your ballots in well in advance, there is plenty of time to count them. I think it is slightly more open to fraud than a pen/paper walk up ballot box, in that when you're in a booth you're filling out your ballot of your own accord, whereas mail in voting is not necessarily private, nor regulated as the ballot is filled out. Nonetheless, it is better than the machines!
  12. I'm with you Will. Religion is something evil people manipulate to be evil, and something good people use for good. Sadly though, the evil examples tend to be grander than the good examples.
  13. I think it might. I went to work today and by the time I got back I had pages to read through.
  14. Well, what's a good love life without these things? Just kidding of course....I think what happened is we all quickly concluded that almost none of us actually has a love life worth speaking about, so the conversation took a few turns speak for yourself holmes. True enough, it might be interesting to speak about but it certainly wouldn't be forum appropriate I meant as far as a serious significant other...........
  15. 1) Baptist. Not sure if there's any other specification to that....not Southern Baptist, just regular Christian Baptist 2)Not practicing any religion. Still go to the same church I grew up in for Christmas Eve services, that's about it. 3)I hated being forced to go; I always felt like my parents forced their religion on me. So, I pretty much abandoned it, and haven't felt any pressing need to replace it as of yet. 4)To be quite honest, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about religion. About a year and a half ago I had an experience that made me pause, and the person with who I shared this experience agreed that it was the one time we both stopped and thought "Wow, that was God" acting in our lives. But for the most part, religion seems like something that people 'need' to help them cope with life, to help them find answers, etc. I prefer to look within myself as opposed to a religion when I need to puzzle through things. I don't deny the possibility of God. I don't claim to know God exists, I won't say that God doesn't exist. However, religion just isn't something that currently has a place in my life.

  17. I'm repulsed by smoking, and I always have been. I've never smoked any sort of anything because I find it so gross. It's hard to explain, but when I find out someone has smoked either cigarettes or pot before, I feel a little twinge of "ew". I think it's at least partly disappointment. Nothing insurmountable by any means, as long as they no longer do it of course. I don't actually know anyone besides myself, and probably Rob and Topher, that hasn't at least experimented. I have friends that smoke cigarettes when they drink, and I can barely stand to be around them then. It's really upsetting to me, but I'm not sure I can verablize the feeling. It's difficult to describe, which is why I imagine it must be similar to how those that don't want to date someone who drinks feels. Sidenote, my family was Jewish 2 generations ago, but my great-grandfather converted to Baptism to marry my non-Jewish great-grandmother.
  18. http://www.salon.com/books/review/2005/11/14/miller/index1.html Just another article related to the whole stolen election thing
  19. I think it's funny that you use "Jesus Christ" in post on atheism I couldn't be an atheist, who's name would I take in vain?
  20. I don't know, but I see the same thing.
  21. I drink....but I think maybe I can understand how some of you feel about alcohol if I compare it to my feelings on cigarettes and marijuana. I simply can't abide them. I don't like to be around people that smoke, or even people that have smoked. Especially being in college, pot is so prevalent and it drives me crazy. My preference is for people that have never even tried them, let alone do them now. So....I guess I can understand the feeling
  22. I cope if they don't change. I don't push for it, I'm more of a lead by example sort. In the afforementioned case, we were together 3 years and he never changed and it wasn't an issue so long as he respected my choices. He did adapt some healthier eating habits as a result of being with me, but didn't give up meat until he found someone more interesting to him, and that was a choice to change he made entirely on his own. (I don't know if he stuck with it).
  23. It seems to me that partners can be quite influential in helping someone go vegan or vegetarian, which is part of why I don't rule people out just because they're not. My ex agreed to try it to impress a woman (not me good reason why we're exes), and while that's completely effed up logic, it's better than eating meat. It'd be lovely to have someone who has my ideals to start with, but most of us weren't born vegan so I'm not opposed to giving someone the benefit of the doubt on being able to change.
  24. Topher and I had fun with pancakes at about 3am this morning. The best part of this recipe is that there's almost no measurements listed And thank goodness for 24 hour grocery stores We didn't measure anything as we made it either, but we'll confirm that the combination of ingredients does indeed make a good pancake! Especially with chocolate frosting on top!
